Sounds like a bad fan. Do not keep using it like this. Open the unit and with the cover off, power up the computer and see if the fans are working.

The computer is shutting down because it is overheating. The CPU has a program to stop when overheating so that it does not ruin any parts on the motherboard or CPU. Normally, the power supply is the culprit and the power supply fan is responsible for keeping the inside cool. Open the case and find the wattage on the power supply. You can find a new on TigerDirect or NewEgg. They are easy to replace with 3 or 4 screws and just remember where lines were plugged in. If you have any questions let me know.

Don't forget to rate this solution.

WINDOWS XP IS MESSED UP

Windows XP Security 2012 is a Virus and you will need to go to the following page which will guide you through the steps you need to take to remove it.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-xp-security-2012

The above page advises you to download a number of tools to use to remove this virus which you would be best advised to download on a different computer and then put them on either a USB memory stick or burn them on to a CD.

If you have difficulty in running these programs because the virus keeps preventing you, then download and burn on to CD a copy of Hiren's Boot CD and then boot your computer with the virus from that CD - start the Mini-XP environment on the Hiren's Boot CD and then run MalwareBytes AntiMalware from the CD and do a full system scan.
Note: Ignore any warnings that may be for the X: drive which is the Boot CD itself - you need to remove any malware found on your main Windows XP drive which is normally your C: drive

Why does my computer keep crashing? I have an acer ASL-100-UD360Athat shuts down and says kernal-data-inpage-error then it starts dumping phsical memory and reboots. . I bought this computer from radishack...

With so many service calls for the same or similar problems, it would appear that another component in the system is burning out your motherboard and DVD drive. I'm willing to bet that your power supply is the issue.
If it is still under warranty, send it back and make that suggestion. Otherwise seriously consider a new computer. If you have to pay for repairs on this one, you will end up buying a new motherboard and a new power supply.

CD drive trying to play CD when drive is empty

Apparently your laptop still thinks there is a cd to play. Be sure you closed down all your programs. I am assuming that you already logged off and shut your computer down and restarted. It could be something as simple as your sensor that detects the cd being in place and just a little dust. Use some clean compressed air that comes in a can and can be bought like at Radio Shack or electronic supply house. Put the nozzle on and blow out any dust that may be in there. Power down and then restart your computer. That should take care of your problem.

Gateway GT4010 bootup disk

If you have good internet access, you can download a live Linux distribution such as Knoppix, and burn the it to CD. Don't let the word "Linux" scare you out of this, Knoppix is very user-friendly. And there is loads of resources available online. Anyway, burn the CD, and boot the computer from it. It will take a little time to boot, as it is a live version running only in RAM. It has very powerful applications though, and you can access your hard drive from it so long as the drive is not corrupted beyond readability. If you can access the hard drive, you can view your files, and copy the files to a USB drive. Once you have your data, you can then shut down and restore windows if the drive will cooperate, or install to a new drive if necessary.

!!! Knoppix will not write to or erase any data from your hard drive without you give it permission to do so !!! It is about your safest option in that respect.

Just google Knoppix to find download sites. Most sites have instructions for downloading and burning your copy. And it's all FREE!!!

If you find my suggestions to be helpful, please share with us some details so that others may benefit from knowing the whole story. Thank you!
