Hi there. You can't import the video because your camera records and puts out video in mpeg2 format. Windows Movie Maker will not read that format. But...good news! - Here are two things you can do to work around that problem.

1. Use the software that came with the camera to capture the video and import the resulting file into Movie Maker. OR
2. Connect your camera to your computer using an analog connection (like S-video cable) and capture the video using Movie Maker.

That will fix your problem. Thanks for coming to FixYa. Let me know if you have any other questions and if you're satisfied with my solution, don't forget to rate it a fixya.

Vista may not support it but you can try some things.

oYou may need to simply and very carefully delete all usb devices from device manager and restart so they are reseen and re-installed.

I have a Sony Handycam TRV325E. I've lost the

if your computer is running windows vista or 7.forget the software.if you have win xp i don't think it's economical to buy the disc.why don't you just download the usb driver from this website:
http://www.sonydigital-link.com/dime/camcorders/sd/d8/d8.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&m=DCR-TRV325E
with the driver installed you can get the PC communicate with the camcorder so you can get your pictures from a memory stick to import to your PC. now with videos, that would have to go a different route and you don't need the software for that.the video import would have to go through the dv (ilink or ieee1394) out jack from the camcorder to an ieee1394 port in your PC.your computer should have the required ieee1394 card installed and enabled.if you do it should then be a plug-and-play connection.all you would need is a compatible dv cable compatible with both cam and PC and a video capturing application like windows moviemaker to import your files of the tape.see p.209 of manual fig.59. hope this helps.thanks:)

Thanks.

Sony DCR-HC52E connected with Firewire not detected in moviemaker

The Camcorder will flash the DV IN message as soon as the i.LINK/Firewire cable is connected to the Camcorder.

If you are getting the DV IN message then it indicates that the Camcorder recognize the connection.

You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video from the Computer.

Refer this link for the instruction to transfer the video to the Computer using i.LINK cable.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C111893

If you are not getting the DV IN message as soon as the i.LINK cable is connected with the Camcorder then the issue may be with either the Camcorder or with the i.LINK cable.

Try resetting the Camcorder or try with different i.LINK cable. Locate the RESET button behind the LCD screen of the Camcorder. (You will be able to locate the RESET button by opening the LCD Screen. The Camcorder should be switched ON when you reset the unit. Press the RESET button using a sharp-pointed object).

NOTE: Resetting the Camcorder will reset the settings of the Camcorder to the factory settings including date and time. It will not delete any data saved in the Camcorder.

If the issue still persists after resetting the Camcorder and with different i.LINK cable then your Camcorder requires service to resolve the issue.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do I transfer the mini DVD to Movie Maker

With your Recorded DVD-R Disc "Finalized", and in the DVD player on your computer, you should be able to browse to your videos with Movie Maker.

In MovieMaker, on the left side where it lists:
Movie Tasks
1. Capture Video
Capture from Video device
Import video . . .

You want to "Import Video", by clicking that and browsing to the DVD-R to find what could be MPG files, or VOB files. They're both MP2 DVD format video and audio files.

Tip: Right Clicking in the Import Video Dialogue Box where the files are listed and selecting View / Thumbnails, will present a view of the scenes in each video.

Import video is only when you have recorded a video using the webcam in a particular format and not on the fly which is what you are trying to do.

Record what you want using another application and the webcam then import the video into movie maker to edit.

Alternatively, I think you need to to go the options screen and select the default audio device. Go to control pannels and see if its there and then select the webcam as the default device for MS applications.

good luck
