If your iPod is frozen or won't turn on, it may be because iPod is paused or the Hold switch is in the locked position. If so, a lock symbol appears on the screen. Slide the Hold switch to the unlocked position and check the screen.

  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  2. Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
If you are still unable to reset your iPod, use only one finger from one hand to press the Center (Select) button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Menu button.
When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time are preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Other customized settings, such as Bookmarks, On-The-Go Playlists, Shuffle, Backlight timer, and so forth are preserved from the last time the hard drive turned on.

try the wall outlet. if none of these work i might have to say it might be a paperweight unless you want

  • Chuck Jul 03, 2013

wow it didnt put in my solution. sorry this site i cannot edit it. so lets start again. the hold switch can show 'no orange' slide it back and forth once and now if that procedure didnt work that i posted earlier, i have to say to plug it into a wall charger for at least an hour and try again while plugged in.and to turn it on you just need to press any button for about 1 second and it should turn on but i would say to do this when it was charging for an hour and leaving it plugged in while doing this. do not use PC! so try reset procedure again while plugged in and leaving plugged in for at least an hour. if none of these work it might be a paperweight and cheaper to pick up a new one rather than having someone fix it.

- if the apple logo comes up then it should reboot and go back to the main menu

I was just using my ipod, and the screen went white... I tried the menu/center button but nothing happened.

Turn the touch off and turn it on again.

If the iPod will not turn off, try to reset it. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until either the Apple logo or battery symbol appears. If the battery symbol appears, continue to charge iPod touch until it is fully charged.

If this doesn't work, try restoring the iPod

My ipod chromatic is completly frozen.

You are doing the reset wrong. Try doing this: Toggle the hold switch and put it back in the off position. Then press and hold the center button and the menu button simultaneously for ten seconds and the apple symbol should come up on the screen. Then it should work like normal. Hope this helps!

Ipod nano 4th generation 8gb purple wont turn off

no there is nothing wrong. This is normal, after you turn it off by pressing the hold/pause button switch it into the locked position. When you take the lock off and press anything it will come back on exactly where you left it. Don't worry it is not faulty. it is supposed to do this.

I hope this helps
