Make sure all programs are closed and run updates. It will take a while with that many updates. You may have to run it more then once since some of the updates won't work till the previous ones are installed. One way to do it to take less time start with the oldest and only install a few at a time. They do not have to be all installed at once. That way you can install a few each day till you have them installed. Also look at the updates some may not be needed if you don't have or use the programs the update is for. Also internet explorer 8 is not needed with vista and it does cause problems in the computer if installed. That is why you should look at and only install what is needed.

You can upgrade to windows 7 from Vista is pretty straight forward. All you have to do is put Windows 7 CD in while running Vista and automatic startup should show you options to choose. There's some trouble with it sometimes for example, you can't upgrade a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version, or upgrade from a higher edition of Windows, such as Windows Vista Ultimate, to a lower edition, such asWindows 7 Home Premium. If this is the case, you'll need to use the Custom option during installation. Please remember that while Upgrading will keep all of your files and programs, custom installation will NOT. So you would need to back everything up before you start. Before you install Windows 7 make sure that all of programs that you need will work on it.
