Internal battery in Sony VCR.

Hello,
Could anyone tell me if there is an internal battery in my older Sony VCR?? It is mode number SLV-373 UC. It used to save the time and everything when the power goes out, but now it doesn't and hasn't for some time. I thought maybe I could replace an internal battery to fix this problem.
Thanks for any help....

These units use a large valued capacitor rather than a battery. If memory serves me corectly, on these units the cap is located on the front panel board. It is usually either a 1 farad cap or a 2.2 farad cap at 3V.

I have a used Sony SLV-920HF VCR that I am trying to set up. Every time I insert a tape it ejects it after a few seconds. Any idea why this happens?

There are two things that could be wrong. First damage to the carriage unit that holds the tape, which to me sounds most likely. The other a faulty or out of place mode switch, which could also could be caused by internal damage to any part of the mechanism.

The vcr tape loads but does not move three peices fell out when i opened it up a rubber oblong wheel a plastic peice wth a spring any sugestions?

I would search for the service manual, because serious damage as things falling out will often send the VCR mode switch out of position. This device tells the electronics what the mechanial section mode is in IE: fast forward or playback etc. However VCR's mode switches and getting them set up right is nearly impossible unless you have done it many times before - hence the need for the manual. It will also list the part numbers of the broken bits and show where they fit.

If you can't get one free try Manuals In PDF.

I have a Sony SLV-N 500 VCR. The remote control very often does not work unless I remove the batteries and re insert them or jiggle the batteries. Is there a permanent fix?

It could be just bad soldering to the joints where the batteries connect. Also check no battery has leaked into the compartment.

Loads of them, you might have to try several or all just to make certain all functions work:
1029, 1030, 1071, 1073, 1074, 1075, 1098, 1102, 1113, 1114, 1115, 1116, 1117, 1118, 1119, 1120, 1121, 1122, 1123, 1182, 1183, 1184, 1247.

Settings disappear

I suspect the internal backup battery is faulty inside the machine. Sometimes it can be an actual battery soldered to the circuit board otherwise look for a low voltage high capaticance capacitor - for example 3.5v 10F. If you dont know how to check for these things then find a competant technician. Good luck.

SLV-660HV Will not load

If you removed the tape carriage assembly, gear timing is probably off, assuming it is gear driven. Being one tooth off will prevent things from working properly. Gears will often have a mark (like an arrow or dot) which must be lined up with each other, in a mode specified in manufacturer service literature. Another possibility is sensors. There are sensors (usually optical) which tell the logic when the tape is properly loaded. If one of these is broken, or otherwise non-functional, logic circuitry will go into error mode, and, in this case, eject tape & display an error code. Lastly, check your mode switch. This tells the logic what position the mechanicals are in (gears/levers/slides). Again, if this is awry, you will have an error condition.

Sony VCR date only goes up 2006

I have 2 SLV-696HF units that won't work after 2007. I have had people tell me that I'll have to "find" a previous calendar that will work, since there are only 14 different calendars in our Gregorian system, 7 for non-leap years & 7 for leap years. The problem we have with this, is that the internal VCR calendar won't roll BACK far enough. I wonder if SONY has a way of flashing these units to fix this problem?
