Is there a stainless steel or cast iron replacement sink for Americast 7172?

I recommend an Elkay stainless steel sink. The drain is not offset the way the Americast drain is, but that shouldn't be a problem. Celebrity is the name of their basic line but it is not a cheapo sink. It comes in depths of 7", 10", and 12". The 10" and 12" deep ones are special order. They also have the Pacemaker, and the Lustertone, which is their top line sink.
I don't care for cast iron sinks as they sometimes bleed rust through the caulk, get scratched, and quickly lose ther gloss.

I have a bathtub drain that has not worked since we moved in. three plumbers said they can't locate the ''lever'' or hook within the drain pipe like they usually do to fix it. apparently have to go into...

if it was a pop up u will see a threaded end in the middle of the drain where the pop up would go if their is one buy a replacement if not and u want a lever replacement and their is no up tube [where lever /overfill drain]will have to install a new drain system which means access to under tub and front of tub to hook up

Sewer gas smell every time the tub is emptyed

If you are getting a gas smell when the tub is emptied it is because you either do not have a big enough vent pipe or your vent pipe is plugged.
I have seen cases where a vent pipe has sagged enough to trap condensate and rain water and plug that way. Find what is the actual cause can be difficult and time comsuming. Often times the cause is hidden over a ceiling or behins a wall.
I have fixed them already but installing a "cheater vent" or "Studor" vent under a vanity cabinet that is close to the tub. These vents are just a one way valve that will let air into the line but not back out.
Your problem is because when the water goes down it replaces some air with water volume. That air comes bubbles back up the piping and creates a smell.

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

The unit has power. when it is turned on the motor just humms

sounds like the pump is seized, did you put bathoil or soap in the tub? If so the pump has probably seized from this and needs to be replaced.

Sewer Gas Smell Coming From Bath Tub

I can think of two possible solutions to this issue.

  1. The trap is installed incorrectly. The trap is the portion of the drain that is U shaped under the tub. The wastewater must come out of the tub and into the trap. From the trap it goes into the trap arm which must remain horizontal until it reaches the vent. This is very important. The vent must remain vertical until it is at least 6" above the rim of the tub.
  2. The sewer could be plugged. Not the tub but the main sewer line. When this occurs the water has no where to go so it forces the air in the line to take the path of least resistance and that usually menas the tub since the shower has a 2" trap. You may hear a bubbling sound when flushing. The drain may not be completely plugged so it would appear as an intermittent problem.
Hope this helps and please remember to rate this!
