Question about Viking Dishwashers

1 Answer

My Viking dishwasher won't fill with water. The motor seems to be running but no water enters the chamber. It's Sunday morning so I'm not able to get a repair person here. I got a response that said ''The ventilators are blocked. Turn it off and have the motor checked'' i was hoping for instructions on how to unblock the ventilators or clean it out. I have a house full of people for the weekend and would love to get this thing back up before Monday when a repair person could come. Any suggestions? Thanks- Jonathan

SOURCE: dishwasher won t fill

I had a similar problem with a Kenmore; the problem turned out to be that the float was stuck. On the bottom of your dishwasher there should be something that looks vaguely like a plastic mushroom - that is the float. Just tap it gently and see if it goes down a bit. If it does, gently move it up and down a few times to make sure it's moving freely (make sure to leave it in the down position) and then try to launch a cycle. Good luck!

Bosch classixx dishwasher starts cycle then says " check water" and then seems to do same thing again and again, pumping water in and draining it again

Probably jug impellor part number (424099) from espares, buyspares or bosch direct.
No fix unfortunately, this problem manifests as unit starts to fill and motor does not switch on. Eventually the unit overfills and the pump and fill start to alternate and check water light comes on. If this is the fault then this part is the solution it runs in line with the inlet valve and side fill chamber, take the left side panel off (looking from the front) it is tucked away behind the hoses bottom left (white plastic disc with two wire connection tag). Check water light can also come on if the unit is not pumping, if this is the case, repost and I will try and talk you through clearing this fault.

Dishwasher starts and stops when filling

You haven't indicated the model number so I'm going to guess its is an SGS or SGV model. The problem with these models and the fault you describe is the pressure chamber or hose (pressure chamber to sump) is blocked and the microswitch is being activated because the water is not entering the tank quick enough. Isolate from electric, remove lid and left panel (looking from the front). There is a plastic chamber bottom right of left side with two microswitches, either this is blocked or the hose that runs from it to the right and along the back of the kick panel and into the sump. Clear either or both (make sure all hoses are pushed true when repositioning). This should sort the problem. If the pressure chamber is excessively blocked it will probably need replacing. Costs approx 25pound direct from Bosch service division (BSH Home Appliance Ltd).
Best of luck

I have a kenmore coldspot model 51559101. The water dispenser is working and I can hear the motor for the ice maker but no ice....

Ice maker stopped making ice. For this problem you have check few things. First thing, is the water filling in the ice maker chamber and then ice maker not making ice? Or, the water is not filling in the ice maker chamber so it's not making ice. If the water is not filling in the ice maker chamber then it's clear that ice is not getting made due to no water in the chamber. For no water filling, the problem is either water supply valve turned off so water is not filling. Turn on the water supply and it will fill. But if the water supply is turned on then the other possibility is ice blockage in the water fill tube. There is a tube from which the water runs and enters the ice maker chamber. If this tube is blocked then water will not enter the chamber. The tube needs to be defrosted, by using hair dryer. This procedure melts the ice collected in the tube and water starts running again. But if water fill tube is completely clear and no ice blockage or any other blockage. Then other possibility is water valve. This water valve is for letting the water in the ice maker. The water valve open only for 7 seconds and in this time the water fills in the ice maker chamber and then water valve closes and the same procedure runs again in the next water filling cycle.------- The main valve on the back of the fridge section. This main valve lets the water enter the refrigerator .In most of the cases the fault is water valve . ------------- The other above possibilities which I gave you is water not filling in ice-maker chamber so it's not making ice. But now consider that water is filling in ice maker chamber but it's still not making ice. Then the problem is ice maker unit itself. This unit is controlled by main board. But in most cases if water is filling the ice maker but it's not making ice then its faulty ice maker unit. So see if the problem is water not entering the ice maker then the water fill tube is frosted by ice or the water valve is faulty. Replace the valve. ------------

You can get required parts from sears part direct online site or from repairclinic.com site.

Check inlet water quality for hardness. If salt chamber is provided, fill the chamber with salt meant for washing machine.

Use the recommended wash soap.

Check rinse aid and fill if required.

Pl refer user manual. In general flashing light may mean : no water flow, salt chamber empty, door not closed etc. It all depends on the error code message designed.assigned by the manufacturer.

No water?

If there's no water entering your dishwasher, check these:

Water-inlet valve
Float switch
Water-inlet valve The water-inlet valve lets water enter the machine. If this valve is defective, you need to completely replace it. It's usually located behind the lower access panel on the left or right side. It's the device with the main water line (usually copper) from the house, a rubber tube to the dishwasher, and two wires attached to it.

Float switch The float switch is a small electrical switch that's located right below the dishwasher "floor." Above the switch, on the inside of the dishwasher, is a plastic cylinder that floats up as water fills the dishwasher. If this switch is defective, or if the plastic float gets caught or trapped in the raised position, the water can't enter the dishwasher. If the float switch is defective, you need to replace it.
