Try changing the screen resolution (right-click on desktop->properties->settings->ok) or searching on Dell's website under the support section for display drivers for your model

This can be because of two reasons.

1) The horizontal and vertical size in the monitor settings might be changed to shrink the visible video size.

2) The resolution settings of the system might be at a very high level which makes the screen/font size very small. Adjust the graphics settings on your system accordingly.

There are two main causes. Your display settings are incorrect or a video driver problem.

First thing to try is right-clicking with your mouse any clear space on the desktop, then choosing properties.

From there you'll see a tab that says "settings".

Just slide the bar all the way to the right. You might have more than one choice and you can always choose again so play around with it until you find the right display ratio for your screen.

Here's a little visual guide here:

If that doesn't work then you probably need to reinstall the drivers for the video. You can try the easy way by doing visiting the "Windows Update" page and performing a custom update. If there is an updated driver then you'll see it listed under HARDWARE.

You can go that route or if you just want you download the drivers direct from Dell support site here:

http://supportapj.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=in&l=en&s=gen

If you still have questions just ask.

Best of Luck!

Game display only occupies the center portion of monitor not full screen. Thinkpad A22m w/ windows xp home SP3. Can't get the game screen to display on the full monitor screen.

It is most likely that the game is unable to operate at the resolution that your screen is set at and is compensating by sizing the game window to the required size. You might change you display resolution to a lower setting.

Display on Dell C840 has blackborders at low resolution

That should be normal. If you use a resolution that is lower then the physical device it will leave the edges black. If the screen printing is to small change fonts and icon sizes instead.

Screen resolution change = black border around small screen

Once you change the resolution to a smaller size and you see the black border, go into the monitor's menu and there should be settings for the Horizontal and Vertical size/position. Adjust those until it looks correct.

I hope this helps :)

While play a game (red alert 2) the game screen does not fill to the edge of the monitor like it should. There is a black border all the way around.

Hey

its a very simple and easy to solve problem. The display driver is not set to scale the picture to full monitor. instead it shows it on the center you have two options

1. change the resolution in red alert 2 to higher (1024x768)
2. or find from your display properties -> advanced -> scaleing settings. the picture needs to be scaled to full screen instead of shown on the center.

it is somewhere in the settings, I don't know exactly where because it varies from laptop to laptop.

go and try to find it, if you really can't find it we can do a remote support session and I'll fix it for you.

Thanks and good luck.

Notebooks usually don't have high res . They trade off the high resulation  for the small size and less power consumption.
