My motherboard is mercury with an inbuilt soundcard. the soundcard is not working

Do you know for sure your speakers are working? Or is Windows saying there's no sound device? Does the Device Manager tree show any problems (! symbol) by sound hardware entries? Has the integrated sound been disabled in the BIOS settings?

Try downloading the sound drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website and reinstall. This often solves the problem.

If the integrated sound has failed, install a PCI sound card if there is an open slot on the board. Or you can also purchase a USB external sound card and plug it into an open USB port, and you don't even need to open the computer. Just be sure to disable the integrated sound in the motherboard BIOS setup.

Thanks for using Fixya! Hope your computer is talking again soon.

Many problems since new sound card

try these motherboard settings:

1. try disabling your on-board sound chip thru your cmos/bios setup and uninstall its driver in windows.

2. try changing your pci setting from 32 to 64 to 128 thru cmos/bios.

3. if any of these setup options doesn't work, try asking the store from where you bought your soundblaster card to have it tested or replaced if it's still under warranty.

E-MU 1616. Problem installing drivers

"I am running windows XP proffessional 5.1 on a HP (compaq) dc7600.
Could this be the problem?"

It could be. Bring up your system properties box (Windows key + Pause/Break key). Is that the version shown at the top right on the GENERAL tab?

Is there some reason you have not installed service pack 2 or 3? Of course if you're running an illegal copy of Windows you can't, but I mean any legitimate reason? If we can eliminate the problem with installing the latest service packs we can move forward.

I hear no sound in my pc

Are you using the same operating system? It seems the driver is incompatible with the operating system you are using. Try downloading the latest driver from the Intel support website.

One other option is to check if your onboard audio device is enabled in the BIOS. If it is not, the device won't be detected of course.

Dell dimension 8300 sound card

Hey there Susan G, this site will give you the on board audio drivers for your friend:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_8300&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
You will have to indicate the OS and language. The download is free. This will get the onboard sound working. As for a add-on sound card, the installation disk should have come with it, but I recommend your friend remove it when the pc is powered down and reinstall after the onboard has returned to working state. If they have the sound card drivers with an installation disk, use it after hardware has been reinstalled. They should also check in the bios setup to have the PCI interface enabled, so the new soundcard can be recognized, and the drivers installed. If they dont have the drivers for the soundcard, they can download them from the manufacturers website support division. Good Luck and let me know if further instruction is required.
