SOURCE: coolpix lens opens retracts opens then closes again and lens error appears

Hello

When you turn the camera on the lens comes out and has parameters when extending to focus, if the lens does not open fully it sees a problem and then closes.

there are tiny plastic gears inside and may have chipped or a piece of sand got in causing the lens to jamb. "very fragile"

one solution is to ask a camera repair shop how much a lens mechanism would be to replace. (if cost is more than 1/2 of what you paid dont bother)

another solution is to have someone sell your camera on an auction site for parts, to make some money towards another camera purchase

SOURCE: Dropped camera. lens open and crooked

Sorry to say you have broken the lens, replacement of the lens is the only practical repair and if you cant swap one yourself from a dead camera it would be beyond economical repair.
If you are adventurous you could buy a faulty one of ebay and swap the lens or if the faulty one has a broken screen or mode dial swap yours over to the faulty one..
there are a couple of "tricks" do getting this camera open drop me a line if you decide to proceed...

best of luck

SOURCE: hi my son dropped my

Hi

It helps to know the make and model of the camera, some cameras the lens is too fragile and we have never been able to repair them. Other models we have had a great deal of success repairing them. (Google: darntoothysam)

One trick you can try... at your own RISK... is to put the camera lens on the edge of a table and gently but firmly push it back towards the middle and try to get it to CLICK back into place. There are three small metal pins inside the lens barrel and these pins ride in grooves in the inside of the lens, this makes the lens move in and out... If your lens is at an angle, at least one pin has jumped out of its groove.

Put the SIDE of the lens (NOT the flat front of the lens, the rounded side) on the edge of the table with the camera body not touching anything. Push the lens back towards being straight again and it will either click back into place or it wont. Even if it does it may not work, or you may damage the lens further.

If you don't want to try this or if you find you need the lens replaced, we can help, we are an affordable digital camera repair business, feel free to check us out and let us know if we can help.

Good luck from Darntoothysam com

SOURCE: kodak camera dropped lens cockeyed stuck open

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

When power ON the screen displays"Lens Error!" & lens does not open.

Hi,
This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed due sand, dust, may be due to external shock caused by dropping the device.
  • You can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.
  • You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.
If motor is running but lens won't retract sometimes lens would slip off with the gear or break off a tooth in the gear when it gets dropped. Try to gently move the lens barrel around with the finger and see if it is moving, but if tooth or gear is broken lens will move onces or twice then it will stuck again.

Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center.

Thanks...!!

Lens won't retract

You could try to gently pull the lens straight. If it's leaning to the right then pull the lens to the left. Don't use brute force but it's possible to realign the lens this way. If it works you'll hear a click and the lens will look straight. Switch on and see if it retracts. I'd only use this as a last resort because you can cause additional damage if it's overdone. It has sood success rate also

You may try resetting the Camera to the original factory settings.

Samsung s700 camera lens won't retract

you must have dropped your camera where it caused damage in internal part. when cameras are dropped wires and screws inside loosen which will cause trouble. Have it checked by a pro. you might destroy it more if you try to fix it yourself. Thanks.

Canon PowerShot SX100 IS Lens Stuck

If the lens does not extend/retract when the camera is powered on, then lens assembly is damaged.

Unfortunately, such Canon SX100 (and the SX110 too) has a very fragile lens assembly, and it's damaged very easily. Most of the times the internal gears, the plastic post guides and the motor are damaged at the same time, so the only solution is to replace the whole lens assembly.

The lens replacement requires a qualified camera repair technician, unless you want to try in repair it yourself, which requires tools (scredrivers, soldering iron, desoldering tool, magnifier glass with light, etc).

Best regards,

PowerShot SD600 will not focus

If the camera was open (lens extracted) the camera lens may be damaged. If you can retract it (power off), then maybe it's just dirty. Can you zoom in or out?

Lens wont retract

I did the same thing to my camera (twice) and I just took it back to the place where I got it. Since it was within the 6 month return period- they let me exchange it for no charge.
They told me that when the camera hits something while the lens is out, it knocks the lens out of its groove, which is why you can't get it to retract.
