Sansui dvd recorder does not work at all.

Sansui sano218-250gb dvd recorder does not work at all. The red light stays on all the time. Can't get anything to work, need a place to take it and get it repaired. Someone told me its the power unit in the set itself ,that is faulty. Live in eastern suburbs can anybody help me.The only difference is the red light is part blue and part red,the tv starts but after a minute or two it goes off altogether and you have to press stanby again. After about six goes it will power up and starts working

Please try to remove and restore power (r&r remove from electrical power by pulling the plug, wait several minutes and then restore power by plugging the unit back into electrical power) to the player. This should clear the error.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

I am presuming that your concern would be the last part, that is the unit will work after about 6 seconds. The most likely area of concern would be the power supply section.. Specifically, the filter capacitor needs to be replaced as it has leaked and therefore it takes time to fully charge and for the unit to operate. While a service center would be the best option, any qualified professional would be in a position to effect repair since this is not critical. Actually, should you venture a DIY (do-it-yourself), then the repairs could be done by yourself. Of course this requires a bit of familiarity with electronic components & circuitry, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. Access to a service manual would be to your added advantage. In some instances, rather than component level repair, board replacement could be done. Replacement board maybe available here, while component (capacitor) would be available from most electronics parts store even Radio Shack.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

First off how long have you owned the unit? It may be a better option to replace rather then repair. Once I have more information I can help assist you in the best option. Also please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thank you,
Lee

I thought you wanted a repair service to send it to. Well, it definitely sounds like the power board / powersupply going bad. I've had a similiar problem with another unit, where the power just came on for a second or two, had to unplug, then try again, I had to repeat this process 5-15 times to get the unit to function. After replaceing the powerboard / powersupply the problem went away.

How do I program a Philips Universal Remote to operate my LG LRA 516 DVD Recorder?

The only code I could find was 0392. Press and hold the setup button until the red indicator light stays on, then release the setup button. Press the desired button in your case it would be VCR/ DVD. The red indicator light should blink then stay lit. Enter the four digit code 0392. If it was a valid code the indicator light should go off. It should work if its a good code.

turn the power on. to get rid of the red light you need to press the timer/rec button on the remote until it turns off. the red light means it is programed to record.
