Question about Acer Aspire One PC Notebook

2 Answers

Windows XP will load - then wont go any more.

I have an acer aspire one the 8.5 inch screen with no cd drive. When I turn it on - Windows XP will load, it will ask me for my password - I put it in and then it just goes to the backdrop page. No start page - no button - no icons, nothing. The mouse will move - and it just turns blue then white back and forth. Not sure what to do. Any suggestions. I cant get to the control panel, because I cant get to the start button. I am unable to run anything. I have gone to safe mode and all I get is a black screen with safe mode in each corner thats all. No icons etc. NOTHING! Really frustrated.

Hello,
When you get to that empty screen, try hitting CTRL+ALT+DELETE.  If you can get task manager to come up, try going to file, run, and typing "C:\windows\explorer.exe".  If that doesn't work perform the following steps:
Reboot the computer.  (Hold the power button for more than 4 seconds to turn it off, wait a few seconds, then hit the power button again)
When the Acer logo shows, press ALT+F10.
Follow the instructions on screen to perform a recovery.  This will erase all your files, and reset the computer back to factory defaults.
If that still doesn't work, send it back to Acer.  You've got a dud.

Sounds like a nasty little virus that may have damaged the hard Drive

best thing to do is chalk it up as a loss and buy a new and bigger hard drive and start fresh, if not you could always try a windows repair and google the information you need so that you can get your files, pics and music back.

Acer aspire one nav50 how to install windows on new hard drive

To install windows on a hard drive you have to boot from a CD with windows XP on, after which it will ask you to press a button.
After which you can follow the setup instructions in windows XP.

My acer netbook stuck on the windows xp screen but wont start beyond that? Had turned it off and on then got to screen: your safe mode options, or start windows normally.....yet it has not.

You most likely will have to repair windows.

If you can, connect an external CD ROM drive to you Aspire One (I'm assuming that the Aspire One dose not have a CD Drive) and boot of the Windows XP CD. Go through the options as if you were re-installing XP and then when it detects the current installation choose the repair option. THis should fix the boot up issue.

Also you can try the "System recovery" Option. You will need to go through the owner's manual to find out how, but usually you boot up the laptop and tap the "F10" or "Alt + F10" key(s) and it will take you into the system recovery options. This will wipe out all the information that was on the disk before so use as a last resort.

My acer aspire one series had unfortunatly cannot start up to windows xp anymore nor system restore it shows a blue crash screen before it dies then restarts i tried system restore f10 but still repeats...

to reinstall windows you can purchase an external drive, or use a flash drive to install winxp off of. Any computer sales shop should be able to perform this if you have an xp cd, they may try to sell you a new one, don't let them. If they won't, go somewhere else.

Acer aspire 1 will not load XP

If this a new drive you need to prepare it using a hard drive utility before windows will recognise it. The drive manufacturer may provide this for you. Maxblast is one such program as is Datalifeguard from Western Digital.

Acer Aspire 5050 Won't Boot.

Your problem could be windows vista isnot installed properly
i assume in the beginning, your laptop come with windows xp.
if you want to go back to windows xp, you can still use alt+f10, as long as you don't delete the recover partition.
Just boot and press Alt+F10, it'll give you recover screen.

your only problem is VISTA, go back to xp vista has no benefits at all for normal uses... at least for now. Besides that problem could be caused by too many things and the information you provided is very incomplete...

MY VISTA WINDOWS WONT LOAD

Okay, I think I can help you but I need some more information. I'm assuming your Acer laptop currently has a version of Windows XP installed, yes? And Acer gave you a CD to upgrade your OS to a version of Windows Vista?

And when you mean that you go to your BIOS to access the CD, I'm assuming that you are talking about the boot options menu (selecting the cd drive vs the hard drive or floppy drive or what not) correct?

When you select the CD drive to boot from, what exactly happens? Do you get any error message? Does the computer turn off? Does it appear to try to load from the CD and then switch to your hard drive instead (and load your existing operating system)?
