  2. In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.
  3. On the Services tab, click to select the check box that is next to Windows Installer
  4. Click OK, and then click Restart to restart the computer.
If that didn't do it,go to the next step.

Method 2: Re-register Windows Installer
  1. loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution'); Click Start, and in the Search box, type Msiexec.exe,
  2. click Search everywhere for All files and folders.
  3. The location of the file should be C:\Windows\System32
  4. Click Start, and then click Run.

  6. Locate and then click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer
  7. In the right pane of the Registry Editor window, double-click ImagePath.
  8. In the Edit String dialog box that appears, make sure that the string in the Value data box contains the correct path for the Msiexec.exe file that you determined in step 3.

If the Value data box does not contain the correct path, make changes to correct the path, and then click OK to close the Edit String dialog box

    3. Use the ARROW keys to select Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.
    4. If the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.
    5. Log on to the computer.
    6. Click Start, click Run, type msiexec /regserver in the Open box, and then click OK.
  11. Shut down your computer, and then restart your computer normally.
Method 4: Reinstall Windows Installer

To reinstall the Windows Installer, follow these steps.

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.

    ren msi.dll msi.old
    ren msiexec.exe msiexec.old

  4. At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER.
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Update the Windows Installer files to the latest version
  7. After the installation of the Windows Installer is complete, restart your computer normally

Check the Windows Installer service (Control Panel - Administrative Tools, Services) is running. It should be set to manual or automatic. Also check the dependency Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is running.

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
Try This;
  • Click Start, click Run, type MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER, and then click OK. You won't see anything when you run this command.
  • Click Start, click Run, type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER, and then click OK. You won't see anything when you run this command. On some machines you may briefly see an hourglass. After this, the operation is complete.
  • Try installing the application again.
I Hope this will solve your issue.
In Case, do tell me.

I think you just erased your hardrive. (Or it wouldn't show the Operating system not found message).
That means your data is already lost. (Unless you have 2 harddrives in your pc)

Get a Windows Installer CD from a trusted source. ( Maybe the local computer store can lend you one)
Test this cd on another pc (By just booting the cd , not by running the installer!)

Install Windows using this cd (Start it using F12 like you said)

firefox is far less prone to problems than IE because it doesn't allow these internet programs/spyware codes to run. I'd ditch IE

To get it back to normal click on control panel >internet options>
delete history and temp files and cookies, on the privacy tab makes sure disable toolbars.... is ticked
on programs tab click on manage add ons and remove everything, you can always get what you need later.
on advanced tab click on reset.

install something like microsoft security essentials to protect your system
let us know if this works :O)

When I tried to download javas new update it sent me a message saying windows installer is not opeating properly. I'm running Vista home basic. Can you help

Try to ensure that Windows Installer service is running, or force start it. 1.. Open Run, and type in services.msc then press Enter. Alternatively, go
to Control Panel -> Administrator Tools -> Services.
2.. Locate Windows Installer in the all install services listing.
3.. Verify that the Status is Started. If the Status column is blank,
right click on Windows Installer and select Start.
4.. If you get error trying to force start the Windows Installer service,
try to change the Startup Type to Automatic (default is Manual), and then
restart the computer.

I would suggest you to run SFC scan which would scan for corrupt system files on the computer and replace them.
Steps to perform SFC scan:

1. Click the Start button
2. From the Start Menu, Click All programs followed by Accessories
3. In the Accessories menu, Right Click on the Command Prompt option
4. From the drop down menu that appears, Click on the 'Run as administrator' option
5. If you have the User Account Control (UAC) enabled you will be asked for authorization prior to the command prompt opening. You may simply need to press the Continue button if you are the administrator or insert the administrator password etc.
6. In the Command Prompt window, type: sfc /scannow and then press Enter
7. A message will appear stating that 'the system scan will begin'
8. Be patient because the scan may take some time
9. If any files require replacing SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Vista DVD for this process to continue
10. If everything is okay you should, after the scan, see the following message "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations"
11. After the scan has completed, Close the command prompt window restart the computer and check.

New application software can not installed

I SOLVED THIS ON MY LAPTOP BY REINSTALLING THE WINDOWS INSTALLER. THIS PROBLEM USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN THE INSTALLER IS CORRUPTED BY SOME MALFUNCTION. THE BEST SOLUTION IS TO UNINSTALL AND RE-INSTALL THE PROGRAM FROM THE MICROSOFT WEBSITE. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.
