Question about Linksys WRT160N Wireless Router

My internet activity stops after about 10 minutes and I have to reboot my router, does anyone know how to fix this?

    i cant even get my internet to work at all as long as the router is hooked up i gave up and am not using it at all dont bother with tech support they couldnt help me 7 times i called them and they had me do the same thing over and over again and still nothing

    I have a similar problem with respect to the time internet activity stops, but my network configuration is different. My Linksys 160N is not connected directly to the cable modem. I have maintained instead my DIR-100 old router connected to the cable modem and the Linksys 160N is remotely connected to one of its LAN ports. The Linksys 160N is connected to a desktop PC via one of its LAN ports and another of its LAN ports receives the cable from the DIR-100 router. I am not using the Linksys WAN port. My Linksys 160N firmware version is v1.02.6-LA Jan 2, 2008. I thank you very much for the attention to this request.     I'm having similar troubles. My conections go for several hours and and then quit. sometimes they do fail back to back. So i reboot my pc/cable modem and router and im good for 5-10 hours. But i shouldnt have to at all! I have re-flashed my firmware a few times. and its solid for about a day. then i go back to doing the the "Router Re-boot Shuffle."

    I have also for my network card, the WMP300N.( also linksys )
    It comes with a 5ft corded tri-antenna. I have it hanging from my ceiling in hopes of raising the broadcast signal to my router which is in a diffrent room of my house. The router is fairly centrally located.

    Now i have confirmed that the 'Net droppage its not with my PC, as my g/f has a dell laptop with a wireless-G card in it.
    WE BOTH get booted at the same time, which leads me to think its the router. Anytime it happens, i goto look at it and its still blinking away on the lights.
    I've also recorded the time of day when it drops and sometimes its like clock work. Same time for 3 or 4 days straight then its doens't happen at all. or at different times. I have a copy of network magic installed on the PC and her laptop, so now i don't make as many notes because it can track when i'm on, when she's on, programs being used, times etc. when the 'net drops.

    if you both know how to go into configuration screen ie 192.168.1.1 and on the upper right hand side of screen you will see some numbers this is your firmware version can you post this. i will see if you need a firmware update. i believe one came out not too long ago that solves this.

Try to upgrade the firmware of the router.Download firmware file from http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support for your model and open 192.168.1.1 Leave username blank and in password type admin click on administration and then on firmware upgrade.Browse and select the downloaded file and upgrade the firmware.It will surely work.Enjoy!!

Try the following a reboot can sometime fix a lot of different problems.
1. Shut down PC or PC's (ALL CONNECTED DEVICES)
2. Unplug Router/Access Points
3. Unplug Modem Wait Approximatly 2 Minutes
4. Plug in Modem wait 2 Minutes
5. Plug in Router/Access Points Wait 1 Minute
6. Restart/Reboot PC/Connected Devices.

Router stopped working.


As long as the power light stays solid, then the router is fine. You need to reconfigure the router for it to receive internet connection from the modem.

No internet connection via router


1. check your firewall settings.
2. Go to the router and check the status by entering into a browser page 192.168.0.1 or 192.168..1.1 this will bring you to the routers setup page and active icons. choose the status.
3. You can unplug the router reboot the PC for one minute and try connectivity again.
4. check the ISP to check you connection even though you say that it is OK.

Router no longer working since new modem was installed. Modem works and can access internet when connected directly to pc. comtrend ct-5071t connected to a linksys router


Reboot the router so that it can get a new dhcp lease.

If you can't login to the router to reboot it, just unplug the power for about a minute, then plug it back in.

If that doesn't work you will need to be able to login to the router to fix it. Depending on your internet supplier, you may have to set the router to login to the router.

AirPort says I'm "connected" but cannot navigate the internet


Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

You seem to have done everything correctly but anytime you make a change to the router (via web or ip) , it is a good idea to reboot the computer. The changes create a "lockdown" and will not allow you to go any further, especially if implementing security or changing password.

After rebooting the computer, were you able to get on-line again?

I have had this same problem with Qwest using a new iMac and MacBook on the Actiontec modem. Qwest did two things: first we reset the modem which was fairly simple and took only about 5 minutes. However, this fix lasts only a few weeks and it comes back. I have just ordered a new modem since there seems to be a problem with the Actiontec device with the newer high speed internet.
I'd try the reset before doing anything else. Good luck.

I know only one working solution for this problem. Download and install Router Commander that was developed for fixing this kind of problems.

Router always reboot, once per 30 minutes


This is a problem with the firmware of your router , the firmware is the software that is inside the router so if its corrupted or have some problem you will have this issue like a constant reboot. so better update the firmware of then router...

Stopped providing connectivity to internet or LAN


What is the color of the power light? If it's solid red then that only means that there is something worng with it. And since you already rebooted the device a couple of times, you cant to reset it. You press the reset button on your rotuer for 10-15 sec. its usually located on the back of the router. Now let me also remind you that it will erase all of the settings on your router if you do this, so you will need to reconfigure it after you reset it.
