I have a similar problem with respect to the time internet activity stops, but my network configuration is different. My Linksys 160N is not connected directly to the cable modem. I have maintained instead my DIR-100 old router connected to the cable modem and the Linksys 160N is remotely connected to one of its LAN ports. The Linksys 160N is connected to a desktop PC via one of its LAN ports and another of its LAN ports receives the cable from the DIR-100 router. I am not using the Linksys WAN port. My Linksys 160N firmware version is v1.02.6-LA Jan 2, 2008. I thank you very much for the attention to this request. I'm having similar troubles. My conections go for several hours and and then quit. sometimes they do fail back to back. So i reboot my pc/cable modem and router and im good for 5-10 hours. But i shouldnt have to at all! I have re-flashed my firmware a few times. and its solid for about a day. then i go back to doing the the "Router Re-boot Shuffle."

I have also for my network card, the WMP300N.( also linksys )
It comes with a 5ft corded tri-antenna. I have it hanging from my ceiling in hopes of raising the broadcast signal to my router which is in a diffrent room of my house. The router is fairly centrally located.

Now i have confirmed that the 'Net droppage its not with my PC, as my g/f has a dell laptop with a wireless-G card in it.
WE BOTH get booted at the same time, which leads me to think its the router. Anytime it happens, i goto look at it and its still blinking away on the lights.
I've also recorded the time of day when it drops and sometimes its like clock work. Same time for 3 or 4 days straight then its doens't happen at all. or at different times. I have a copy of network magic installed on the PC and her laptop, so now i don't make as many notes because it can track when i'm on, when she's on, programs being used, times etc. when the 'net drops.

As long as the power light stays solid, then the router is fine. You need to reconfigure the router for it to receive internet connection from the modem.

Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

You seem to have done everything correctly but anytime you make a change to the router (via web or ip) , it is a good idea to reboot the computer. The changes create a "lockdown" and will not allow you to go any further, especially if implementing security or changing password.

After rebooting the computer, were you able to get on-line again?

Please let me know and I will assist further.

We have actiontec verizon router/modem GT704WG. We have to reboot our computer and router multiple times a day to get the internet to work. It will be working, then all of the sudden it just stops, and we...

I have had this same problem with Qwest using a new iMac and MacBook on the Actiontec modem. Qwest did two things: first we reset the modem which was fairly simple and took only about 5 minutes. However, this fix lasts only a few weeks and it comes back. I have just ordered a new modem since there seems to be a problem with the Actiontec device with the newer high speed internet.
I'd try the reset before doing anything else. Good luck.

Cannot get 2wire to work on my iphone! :(

Try this one:

>on ur WIFI networks, click "other..."
>then manually type in ur network name (if its set to default, it should be 2WIRE and the last 3 digits of ur SN. It is case sensitive so type the name exactly how it looks like.)
>make sure that the setting is set to WEP
>on the password box, enter a dollar sign/$ first and then the 10 digit code under ur 2wire

keep me posted on this one

Stopped providing connectivity to internet or LAN

What is the color of the power light? If it's solid red then that only means that there is something worng with it. And since you already rebooted the device a couple of times, you cant to reset it. You press the reset button on your rotuer for 10-15 sec. its usually located on the back of the router. Now let me also remind you that it will erase all of the settings on your router if you do this, so you will need to reconfigure it after you reset it.

Just reply to this post to let me know what will happen.

thanks.

3com Wireless internet connection.

So you have a wireless router powering itself off at random intervals?

Change the power adapter if you have an extra.  (Just for grins.  You never know.)

I would also look into new firmware revisions for your router's model on 3com's site.  There could be packet blockage or any other random number of issues that are causing the router to reboot itself.  (There are plenty of routers out there designed to reboot themselves if they detect certain issues.)

If the issues persist...  Try running the router on it's stock settings for a few days to see if it continues.  If it runs ok with stock settings, then perhaps there is a certain function or feature you are using that the router is not handling too well.

There have also been certain routers that have been identified as having certain issues with either the hardware your ISP gives you or the settings your ISP is using for your connection.  A sudden change in the way your ISP is doing things could suddenly mean issues for your connection if you're using a router that doesn't like it.

Example: I was once using COX cable internet in Omaha a couple of years back...  Being that Nebraska is notorious for it's fandom when it comes to the Huskers...  Cox decided it would be a great idea to use multi-cast packet broadcasting to transmit the game over the internet.

BAD IDEA.  Anyone in that service area who had a Linksys BEFSR41 router could not maintain connectivity for more than 10 minutes without a reboot.

I later found out from a good tech friend of mine who worked for COX at the time that the issue was definitely widespread and the effects were immediate and lasted throughout the course of the entire game!  (Man I was NOT happy!)

According to him, the problem was the method they were using to send out the multi-cast packets.  They had set the frame sizes too high.

Ahem....  Anyway... You get the idea.

But check into updating your router's firmware anyway.  That's always a good place to start.  :)
