The PS3 will power on to green when power pushed. but has to be held down to power off.Won't reset. No video, Controller won't sync. Disc acts like it's playing. Only beeps when on then when off.

It sounds like the same symptoms of the RLOD. (Red Light of Death) I assume you know what that means because you stated you checked the heat sinks and solder joint. When you checked everything, did you use a heat gun and replace the gel on the cpu and mcu? Those solder joints are almost undetectable, and a simple fix with a heat gun. A big must though. Replace the heat gel that separates the frame from the heat sink. Very important!

Games freeze up

Hi, you and most all PS3 owners have or will experience this problem. Your Heat Transfer compound is dried up. This to me is a definite Manufacturer Defect. Contact Sony at 1800 345-7669 unless your outside North America. If you know how to get to the heat sinks, I suggest you go there and put some new high quality Heat Transfer compound between your processors and the heat sinks.

Another possible solution would be to turn your ps3 off from the switch in the back, hold the eject button, and while still holding it, switch it back on. it will turn on a fan for about 30 seconds. make sure there is no disk in the system when you do this, just in case. This should clean up any dust or dirt in the system

My ps3 will play sound of games or dvd but i have no picture

The "NO VIDEO/PIXELATED VIDEO" problem is all too common on the PS3. It results from overheating of the RSX and/or CELL processor. It is necessary to disassemble the unit apply AS5 compound and shim the heatsinks to ensure proper contact between the heat sink and the processors. I do this for $65 or send to SONY if under warranty. They will fix for 150+tax if out of warranty 1800345SONY

Also check your Ribbon cable connections, as I did se where one PS3 owner found his Ribbon cable fromt he Card readers miss inserted. He orrectly inserted it and he was up and running. Now you do need to contact and Get Sony to fix this if you have the required credentials. Do not waste your warranty.
