That model acer is a newer system; pentium dual-core; so bios limitations should not be an issue. With the 120GXP older drive; check that the 32GB jumper is right. The pins have a label (red text) on the back; ensure it is set to master (according to the far left label) not the right. It will take 2 jumpers; not just one. See how that works. Also, check your bios settings; and ensure the IDE power ... is enabled. (for example secondary) may be disabled. Or, check that "legacy" support is enabled in the bios. Please rank me if this helps. I have ibm deskstar 20GB. Problem is that i want to connect it as an external drive through usb connector. It detects but no partition is shown in my computer. i try all jumper setting define in manual...

In Windows 7, you can use Disk management to detect and create a partition on this drive if necessary.
Steps: 1. Connect your external drive through a USB port.
2. Click Control Panel - System and Security - Create and format hard disk partitions (under Administrative tools)
3. Your drive should appear in the table below. Select the external disk and Right Click on it. You will be presented with several options (Create partition, Format, etc.). Select whatever is applicable in your case.
4. Your external drive should now be detected by Windows 7.

I have a Deskstar 80GB hard drive and I am adding another drive to the computer. How do I set the Deskstar to the Master. I'm not sure what the pin settings should be?

If you have the EIDE cables on your PC, it is easy. Your drives need to have their jumpers in the CBL SEL (cable select) positions (identified on the case on the sticker) and then you simply connect your Deskstar to the Master connector, and your other drive to the Slave connector.

How do i install a used hard drive into an eMachines T2341? The hard drive still has information on it. do i set it as master, slave, or cable select? hard drive is an IBM 10.1 gb

There are two possible solutions depending on how your desktop is setup.
#1 install the 2nd hard drive and put jumper to CABLE SELECT. When you start the computer it should now appear in the bios as a SLAVE or 2nd hard drive. If not go to #2 below
#2 Turn system off again and change jumper on 2nd hard drive to SLAVE.
Now when your computer restarts it will appear in your bios correctly as the 2nd drive/SLAVE.
Do not make it "MASTER" or you will be trying to boot up to this drive and it may not work as you planned.

FYI: "Cable Select" means the hard drive determines which one is Master and which one is Slave by where it is on the data cable.

Good Luck

IBM deskstar 120 GXP 40GB will only format to 22GB. Its an old drive setup in an external usb enclosure

sounds like you're trying to format with FAT 16 or 32 which limits the partition size.
Try formatting with NFS which has no limit on partition sizes

I have just removed a IBM Deskstar (DTLA-307015) from my desktop and installed into a external enclosure just turned it on and it worked without installing any drivers. I want to know is this set up right?...

since you said that the HDD works you have nothing nto worry, that means you have installed it correctly. as for clearing it up suggest you do a complete format. when you plug in the USB the pc will assign a drive name to it. note it down. the right click my computer/manage/disk managment(from the left panel) right click on the drive you noted down & format.
