Question about Westinghouse 78127 Industrial Ceiling Fan

2 Answers

I installed 2 industrial ceiling fans with 5 speed controls but my customer want the fans to rotate slower than the lowest setting. Could I install an ordinary lighting dimmer switch either before the input or after the output to further slow them down or is there a better answer? Thanks Steve Paysen stevepaysen@worldnet.att.net

I'm not sure that that could be done and it wouldn't be a good idea anyway. Messing with the fan speed outside of the fans speed control could damage it. It's like making the fan try to do two things at once. I would simply ask them if they would like a not industrial fan put in, they are certain to have a slower low speed.

A regular dimmer switch will not do what you want.  A variable speed switch similar to a dimmer but made specifically to control motor loads may do what you want.  I think it would have to be installed after the 5-speed controller because the reduced voltage may cause problems for that controller.  Maybe you should just replace the controller with a the variable speed switch.

I purchased a 'Turn of the Century-Apollo' model 355-6786 cieling fan. The only problem is no fan blade mounting bolts and nuts, instead I have 2 packs of mounting screws. I've dialed the Customer Service Department to no avail. Is there an unpublished WEB site?

My ceiling fan wobbles and I can only use it on the lowest speed.

Hi,
This problem is most probably due to some irregularity or loss of alignment of the blades. Check the blades to sort out this issue.

I just purchased and installed a Hampton Bay palm beach 48' ceiling fan (close to ceiling mount)Problem is when turned on I hear an annoying hummmmmmmmmmmm, more of a hum at high speed and it graduates...

You have a rotating dimmer switch on the wall to control speed right? If so, it is the wrong type switch. The missed matched switch will cause the humming. Use a regular on/off switch and control speed with the pull string

Bay Model # 526-012 Fans what size speed control

I can't see any reason why a Leviton fan speed control couldn't be used on any ceiling fan, after all, I don't even think Leviton makes ceiling fans. Second, you may be able to try using the 1.5 amp fan speed control and see if you can get by. The worst that could happen is the speed control wouldn't work or would only work for a short time and be junk.

Fan speed too fast

Is there a light switch control or just straight power to the fan? They do sell "Fan" controll switches just like a regular dimmer, but for a fan. If there is just straight power u would still be able to install a remote that could lessen the speed. Even if it is just pull chains. the remote would have three speeds and if u kept the pull chain on low, maybe the low remote speed could work.

There is a little black switch that reverses rotation so it's pulling air up. On low with this reversed it should be just fine.

Ceiling fan does not reverse with remote

Just reporting that I called Hampton Bay about the remote not working to reverse the fan. I was told that I needed to have the fan running on low and then press reverse on the remote control. If that doesn't work, customer service told me to press reverse while running the fan on medium. (Some fans are set to reverse on low and others on medium.) Nowhere in the manual is this addressed. I had been pressing reverse with the fan turned off, which seemed to me a logical thing to do. Live and learn.
