The system is telling you it can't find anything to boot from. In this case, it is probably the hard drive. As a bit of troubleshooting, open your case and check to make sure no wires have come off the hard drive or board. Do you have a boot disk you can check as well? If you do, put that in the cd/dvd drive to see if it will attempt to boot from that (although you won't be able to do much else if it can't find a hard drive to write to). While it's open, do you happen to have another hard drive laying around that works and you could swap it out to see if the one in there now is no good? Let me know what you come up with.

Free usb reboot

You might want to boot from a USB device, like an external hard drive or a flash drive, for many different reasons.
When you boot from a USB device, what you're actually doing is running your computer with the operating system that's installed on the USB device. When you start your computer normally, you're running with the operating system installed on your hard drive - Windows, Linux, etc.

How To Boot From a USB Device
Change the BIOS boot order so the USB device option is listed first. The BIOS is rarely setup this way by default.
If the USB boot option is not first in the boot order, your PC will start "normally" (i.e. boot from your hard drive) without even looking at any boot information that might be on your USB device.
Tip: The BIOS on most computers list the USB boot option as USB or Removable Devices but some confusingly list it as a Hard Drive option, so be sure to dig around if you're having trouble finding the right one to choose.
Note: After setting your USB device as the first boot device, your computer will check it for boot information each time your PC starts. Leaving your computer configured this way shouldn't cause problems unless you plan on leaving the bootable USB device attached all the time.
Attach the USB device to your computer via any available USB port.
Note: Creating a bootable flash drive or configuring an external hard drive as bootable is a task in itself. Chances are you made it to my instructions here because you know whatever USB device you have should be bootable after properly configuring BIOS.

  • Restart your computer.
  • Watch for a Press any key to boot from external device... message.
  • On some bootable devices, you may be prompted with a message to press a key before the computer will boot to the flash drive or other USB device.
  • If you do nothing, your computer will check for boot information on the next boot device in the list in BIOS (see Step 1) which will probably be your hard drive.
Note: Most of the time when trying to boot to a USB device there is no key-press prompt. The USB boot process usually starts immediately.

  • Your computer should now boot from the flash drive or USB based external hard drive.

HP 255 How do I setup bootable disk ? I have tried esc and seled internal cd-dvd room but it doesn't work

On the HP System, you'll need to press the escape key as the system is starting up, and then hit F9 to get to Boot Device Options. Once there, you can set the boot order. After you've set the boot order, you'll also need to make sure that you have bootable files in the device that you've selected as the first boot device.

For example, if you've set the first boot device as CD-ROM drive, and the second is the Hard Disk Drive, then you'll have to make sure that there's a bootable CD/DVD in the drive when you start the system. If no bootable files are found on the first boot device, it'll automatically check the next boot device, which is the Hard disk and start booting from the Hard disk.

I just install my HP printer On lenovo tower and I'm having trouble starting my computer how can I fixed?

Your lenovo will be set to boot from USB as an option, you need to disable boot from USB in the bios to stop it locking up on boot as it thinks the printer is a boot device and is waiting for a signal from it to boot.

IBM T20,inaccessible boot device

The Innaccessable Boot Device message means one of 2 things:

1: your hard drive has died - not much here, must replace drive.

2: The master boot record has become corrupt. Without any media, this will be hard to fix. You will need to boot to the Windows CD and either run the recovery console or perform a windows repair to fix this issue.

Screen has stop inaccessiable boot device on it

If you are running windows, Insert your windows cd and set computer to start from cd. When prompted to, hit a key to boot from CD. Let Windows start the install (relax it is not really installing anything) when it gets to the prompt tell it you want to Repair an existing installation. Then pick the prompt that gets you the recovery console. When you get to the prompt type CHKDSK /R and let it run. Sometimes this can take an hour or more depending on the size of your drive. Do not get worried if the percentages complete go backwards, like from 70% back to 50%. Sometimes it will go back and fix files. Hopefully you will not get the error that there are unrecoverable errors. This has worked for me on about 90% of the hard drives that I received the inaccessible boot device.

Ibm thinkpad r40 laptop just installed new harddrive, powers up no operating system found..... reorder harddrive, still no change setup and booted from cd, no change when placing windows xp cd will...

The problem is that you need to boot up the laptop with the CD as the first boot device so you can then install Windows XP.
If you press F12 a boot up you will get a list of alternate boot devices oher than the hard disk as the first boot device, which was set up in the BIOS. Select the CD as the first boot device and when prompted press the space bar to start the CD.

My toshiba p105 with windows xp won't boot and i want to reformat it. I have the bootable disc but when I use the c key to boot from it, nothing happens and the usual message I have been getting, We are...

What you want to do in this matter is, go into the BIOS if you haven't done that already, and change the boot device priority to CD. You want to do the following right when you startup the computer, and without the CD in the drive. BIOS/Setup Utility, can usually be found be pressing the delete key at startup, or the F12 key at startup, so push one of those two keys a few times to get to the BIOS utility. The setting to change the boot order of devices is usually one of the menu options at the top of the screen, closer to the right side. Once you find how to change the boot order, change the first device that the computer boots to to the CD you've got, insert your CD, save the BIOS settings and exit, and you should be set to go.

Can't get past the post

Have you set the boot sequence in the bios to cdrom first. You are installing from a winxp cd right? Also, when it past the post and starts reading the cd it will ask you to press any key to boot from cd, if you do not press any key in a matter of seconds it will search for another boot device. Since you don't have any other operable boot device, it will not boot up. If you still have problems, please let me know
