Question about NEC LT 260K Multimedia Projector

NEC LT260 has White specs on Screen

I haven't used my projector for a little while and now there are white specs (like stars) mainly in the centre of the screen. I've tried cleaning the lenses but it hasn't made any difference.

Any ideas what the problem is?

Thanks

Finally got around to taking the projector apart and tried using a dust remover to clear the problem but this hasn't worked. It looks like the chip itself will need to be replaced. I've taken it out and can clearly see a problem on the mirror surface, it looks like a thumb print albeit I know it's not as it is a sealed unit and as such I cannot get to it to try and fix it.

Looks like I'll be ditching the projector unless I can source another chip at a reasonble price. Anybody know where I could source the part?

    Thanks

I had the same problem. It is specks of dust on the DMD chip that the lens focuses on.

If you take it apart you can see a long telescopic lens that points at a small chip. This chip contains all the micro mirrors that produce the image.

Fortunately this sensitive item has a glass cover. Unfortunately it can be contaminated with dust. I just squirted a jet of air from a camera lens blower brush to remove the specks of dust. Problem solved.

(If you get any dark shadows at the edge of the screen then the light tunnel between bulb and colour wheel has partially collapsed.)

SOURCE: NEC LT260 PROJECTOR NOISE

To open this projector, you need to undo six screws at the underside of the case. That means you have to turn the projector upsidedown.
Pls note that one of these scews is a little hidden under the carrying handle.
After removing the screws, return the projector to it's normal 'up-side' up, standing position.
Remove the bulb cover srews and remove the bulb cover.
Lift up the top cover carefully starting from the front then all together.
The cooling fan is mounted very near the bulb assembly.
Carefully check the fan blades for any obtacles, wires or even a broken fan blade, that could be causing the noise.

SOURCE: projector says out of range

The native resolution on the 6100 is 800x600. I have had it recognize 640x480 and 1024x768 though. Check your computer to make sure the resolution is 800x600. Also set the refresh rate at 60htz, if the refresh is too high it can give out of range errors.
