Question about Maytag Neptune MDE5500AY Electric Dryer

1 Answer

The tub is scraping against the side of the unit when turning.

It sounds as if the noise is on the backside of one of the plastic dividers inside.

My father's dryer makes noise when you push the start button but does not dry the clothes or turn inside. model number LER4634EZ2 what could it be?

sounds possibly like the belt has broken and not turning the tub, need to gain access to the inside of unit and check under tub for belt break... most dryers the top will pop up and if there is a lint filter on top you will have to raise lid to lint filter and remove 2 phillips screws before opening top of unit...once inside the front panel can be removed by removing the 2 screws on the inside top left and right corner of unit.hold the tub up with your hand and pull the front cover away.you will have to disconnect 2 wires for the door switch connection...make sure to have the unit unplugged while doing this....good luck to you

the clicking is your gas turning on and off

DRUM MAKES NOISE WHEN TURNING ALMOST LIKE IT'S RUBBING AGAINST SOMETHING INSIDE THE MACHINE. SOUNDS LIKE DRUM IS TRYING TO STICK AT SOME POINT OF ROTATION.

check that all the support springs are connected and one is not broken. It is also possible that something is between the drum and the frame.

Dryer turns and heats fine. Just makes a loud grinding noise.

Likely a tub support roller that is going bad. may also be a rear drum seal causing the moving drum to scrape against the fixed rear wall. Follow procedure below for disassembly if you feel capable and it should reveal whichever is the cause.

Lift Cover on lint filter. Remove two screws Phillips screws taking care NOT to allow them to fall into the blower housing. Place putty knife in the seam between the top and front panel about 2” in from either side. Push in on clip while pulling control panel forward and tilting putty knife handle up, all at the same time. Same on opposite side. Raise top all the way.

Looking down inside dryer on left and right see a 5/16” hex head screw about 6 inches down. Remove each side while holding front panel in place. Pull top of front panel about 3 inches forward from sides and then pull up. This will disengage the front panel from lower pressure clips and allow you to turn it sideways and expose the dryer interior. Reverse process to re-assemble. Take careful note of belt configuration BEFORE removing it. Draw a diagram of its travel.

My GE Profile DPSE810 Electic Dryer has started making a scraping noise when the drum rotates. What could be causing the scraping? It makes the noise even if I take out all the clothes and there is nothing...

Told by several GE Service Techs that the noise is normal metal expansion & nothing can be done. Anyone else have this issue?
First dryer in over 40 years we ever heard this type of noise.

Wire Scraping sound and sparks inside rear dryer drum area.

Probably the rear bearing has failed and caused the drum to rub against the heating element. Hey, is this the guy that said he heard a noise last month? LOL

Scraping sound when tub is rotating.

The motor turning the drum may be bad OR the spindle or axle the drum turns on may be bad as well. The belt turning the drum may have been to tight thus putting too much pressure on the drum which eventually would wear it out then causing the noise which will only get louder as time goes on.
You will need to take off the back of the dryer and possibly the top to gain proper access to the drum and motor.

Hotpoint tumble dryer is making loud scraping noise like the drum is catching against one the panels

This sound is caused by the drum tilting towards the rear panel just above the heating element housing and is due to the drum spindle wearing through the bearing. (Which can lead to it shearing off) after it`s cut it `s way into the bearing support bracket. A new rear bearing kit is needed. it will come with a foam support which is stuck on to the inside of the back panel as the drum rests against this when turning. the foam support on your dryer may have perished or gone flat due to the heat from the element and that is why your hearing the scaping sound. new foam ring from the bearng kit will cure the scraping.

Those are front tub supports that keep the tub from scraping.Unless you start hearing a rubbing or scraping sound your dryer is ok.Just keep a ear open for awhile for any scraping sound. If you need help in the future with anything ,Im more than happy to help you.

Hotpoint dryer stop working

if its the same as my dryer CTD40 (or similar) then you have to remove the sides to check into the dryer if anything is stuck, i had a plastic burning smell once and found it was one of the runner wheels had dislodged and was scraping on the drum just re-aline the wheel if it is that, they do come off easily if the dryer has been moved, as i found out. also you will find that the sound of the dryer will change, (scrapeing noise) dont let an engineer lie to you and tell you the bearings have gone, (when i say engineer i mean when you call one out NOT Fixit engineers)
Good luck
