Dead iPhone?

By Vear on Aug 01, 2007

" "
I had my iPhone at work today and the battery was dying I was not in rush to recharge till lunch. Well I got a red battery icon saying to connect to power, then after hitting the main menu button it just went blank. I got into the car and put it to the charger, no familiar recharge noise nor the green battery icon. I have it home now on the base charger but still nothing is going on...maybe let it charge for 8 hours before I touch the thing again? Or is there something more serious going on?

- you need to reset your iphone. To do this toggle the switch above the volume back and forth two times, the hold the main button along with the top power button for about six seconds or until you see the apple icon displayed on your screen the main menu will appear shortly thereafter. Oh and if you did any charging during this blackout period it is accounted for when your iPhone comes back to life. Hope that helps :)

u dont have to reset it. thats a wasted effort unless its frozen. u just have to wait. when its red its VERY low on battery and wont show the apple until the very second it turns green. and when it reaches that point, it WILL turn on by itself. often, if its near dead then it wont show ANY reaction to being into the charger but it is charging and it will later on go to the red battery symbol. Hope this helped :]]

Same thing -- it went dead and wouldn't start up again. So glad to find this simple answer. But it's now stuck on the apple logo, the main screen hasn't returned as yet, but I'll leave it charging for now.

My iphone just went BLACk screen  and im not sure what to do i already tried the PRess home button with the rest btton, and i tried charging it on my mac laptop, but the itunes wont pop up. and now i put it on charge but its still black screen.

Comment by Guest, posted on Jan 20, 2009

My iPhone suddenly showed the extremily low battery indicator on the main screen, and didn't show up on my computer when I plugged in the usb connector to charge the phone. I had tried holding the reset and home buttons for 10 seconds, but it didn't respond, so I googled for help and this page came up. I tried the solution above and it worked great. Thanks for the help.

Comment by inforthegame, posted on Jan 01, 2009

hey guys thanks for the advise, my gf got a new iphone, was working fine but the battery died on 31st december overnite i put it on charge and had an alarm on for 1st january at 6am, and the alarm went on and would not stop because the screen just died...was pressing all buttons frantically without any results, so i decided to call apple tech support and THEY WERE CLOSED FOR THE HOLIDAYS!!! wow maybe we should stop using all apple products on holidays, and stop buying apple products on holidays too!!  Called AT and T and they said they were helpless too and only apple could solve the problem and they had no authority to do anything nor could they get access to any Apple technician.  And all this time the ALARM WAS RINGING LIKE CRAZY....and then i found you guys on the net! The trick worked like a charm Press the top on/off swictch, and press the switch below the touch screen and toggle the button above the volume on and off, while holding the other two ones pressed down, and it took about 10 toggles to start the damn iphone. I MUST SAY THAT THEY HAVE THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN HISTORY!

Comment by Guest, posted on Dec 04, 2008

Thanks! This fixed my iPhone, too. I thought I was going to have to buy a new one.

Comment by Guest, posted on Dec 03, 2008

It worked! My iPhone resurrected following your instructions. Kudos! What puzzled me is why did it just went dead for no apparent reason?

Comment by Guest, posted on Nov 24, 2008

omg, i thought my iphone had died completely! Dead and buried, but u saved it. It owes its first born....

Comment by Guest, posted on Nov 18, 2008

I had the same problem, phone was dead nothing working, held down the home button and pressed power button at the same time and kept toggling the button above the volume on and off. Took about 10 goes but it worked.

Thanks!

Comment by Guest, posted on Oct 12, 2008

Nothing worked. No response other than a slowly flashing Apple icon when the iPhone is in its charging cradle. No meaningful help on the Apple website. Most devices have a physical reset button -- sure would be nice here ... I guess it's time to restore from the PC :-(

Comment by Guest, posted on Jun 03, 2008

I've tried the instructions (if I understood them correctly) and it's not working for me. The phone seems to have gone black out of nowhere. My phone is only a month old; it can't be a dead battery already!

Comment by redearth74, posted on Mar 27, 2008

Yeah - same problem - did a ZiPhone unlock, firmware 1.1.4 - everything was working great the first day. Day two, the backlight stopped working, then the iPhone wouldn't charge... I was able to charge it partly using an old firewire iPod charger, but the iPhone (near the sim card/ camera area) got very hot. It charged to about 60%, then lost its charge very rapidly when unplugged. I took it back to Apple but they wouldn't accept it, as I hadn't activated it through AT&T.... I'm out a lot of money, and I've only had this damn thing working for one day! HELP!

Comment by Guest, posted on Mar 21, 2008

Hi all, I need help!!!! I unlocked my iphone with the firmware jail break. yesterday i was upgrading my phone to version 1.1.1.4 and it downloaded fine and was working fine. today i woke up and decided to put the phone on the base to download some music and right after that i started seeing a message that said i needed to disconnect the phone because there was a power surge in the usb hub on my computer. i disconnected it and after that i tried to plug it into the wall unit and i didnt charge.

Everything was working fine still but i could not charge it. it just wouldnt charge. so i had to use it until the power ran out and now its dead and i cant charge it. each time i plug it in i get nothing. can anyone help!!!!! please i love my iphone and i know that apple wont fix or they will charge me. Helllllllp!.
