Question about Whirlpool SF325 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

SF367LEMQ0 I have the above Whirlpool gas range. When I turn the gas handle on, the igniter will not ignite the gas coming out of the hole. However, when I use a match, I have to turn the handle to low gas and it will light. However, I do have question, "should the flame shoot up like a blow torch?" I asked my son who had the Whirplool as a gift from dad and mom, however, I am now using it and it does not look right to see four straight flames shooting upwards. Is this what I should see or is there something wrong with the orifices. This is happening on all four "jets." Lastly, the electric igniter sparks, however, the gas is not being lit by the igniter. Not really sure what is happening. Can you help? Thank you. Edmund J. Wiatr, Jr. e-mail: ewiatrjr@roadrunner.com P.S. I do have a picture of the four jets with the large single flame coming out. I can send to you.

You are missing some parts.
Namely the round disk that covers the top of the gas outlet at each burner.
Also, make sure you both use the same type gas...ie; LP or Natural gas.

Whirlpool oven wont light

The igniter has to heat the thermocouple to turn on the gas valve so if the igniter is glowing brightly either (or both) of those components could be at fault.

On my whirlpool gas range only 1 burner out of 5 will ignite. oven light works, oven ignites. only 3 months old and worked fine until now.

Most often when cleaning, soapis left behind and obstructs the flow of ignition gas normally directed at the exact point of the spark. Check this area and use a small wire brush to clean these area of the burners that do nto work. Let us know if this helps. Eric Campion

When turning on, the ignitor clicks and stays on but only on half of the burners.

Hello,
exactly where the flame doesnt ignite there is a hole in the burner that the gas comes out of ,that hole is clogged with debris and could be cleaned by pushinga papaer clip through it to cleared the blackage,if that does not work that burner would need to be replaced. It of course would be a good idea to clean every hole on the burners all of them for both surface range and oven/broil

Hello,

The holes on the actual bake burner bar(tube) could be clogged so ya hear the gas coming out the rest of it, the spark cant ignite the gas since the gas isn't getting to the spark. If it hasn't been done the holes could be poked with a paper clip to assure their clear,or the burner bar could be replaced. If that doesn't fix it it's what my airplane mechanic friend would call a hanger queen and that plane will never fly.

Good luck,i hope this helps,

Hi,

The most common problem for gas surface burners is that they get gas but don't light. This is generally caused by dirt or grease splatters on the burner itself. Residential-grade range/stove burners are round and have small holes around their perimeter to allow gas to flow out and create a round flame. The gas coming from these holes is often ignited by a small vertical row of holes on the side of the burner. If these vertical holes are clogged or obstructed, the gas can't ignite.

The solution is to clean the burners thoroughly. Use a toothpick to clear the small vertical holes, then allow the burner to dry completely and try lighting it again. If it doesn't light immediately, repeat the procedure

May be the ignitor, replaced mine and it fixed it. A gas company guy told me that is common in Magic Chef ranges.

Burners not igniting

If you are getting a spark, but no gas ignition, I am guessing that the gas is not reaching the ignitor. Burners have many holes that allow that create the flame pattern. There are usually one or two holes right next to the ignitor. If the holes are clogged or mis-alligned, there will not be any ignition. On sealed burner ranges, lift out the burner cap, clean it, and make sure it is alligned properly. On open burner ranges, inspect the holes near the ingnitor and use a small wire to clean them. Sometimes you have to remove the burner to get a good cleaning.

Igniter

It is normal for all 4 burners to spark at same time.  Often burners won't light even when you can see the spark at them because the burner is dirty.  Take a pin and clean out all the holes in rim of burner.  Also look for small cracks in white part of igniter.  If cracked it must be replaced.
