Question about DISH Network DVR-625 DTV Receiver / 100-Hours Video Recorder

Dish VIP 612 breaks up when playing back recorded shows.

My Dish VIP 612 works fine on live TV but breaks up, freezes, pixilates when playing back recorded shows especially longer shows like basketball games, football games, etc. Dish has sent me three different DVRs but I still have the problem.

Any suggestions?

    Mine does the same thing. If I skip back, the audio comes in three
    seconds after the video playback begins. There is random freezing or
    macroblocking of the recorded image, and an occasional flash. I just
    got off the phone (again) with Dish and the guy finally admitted this
    was a known issue with all their HD receivers. Needless to say I am
    furious they have wasted so much of my time, swapping recievers and
    having the guy come out to swap all the outside stuff. After many years
    I may be ready to tell Dish to pound sand.

    In response to your questions, I am on my third DVR from
    Dish and I am having fewer problems than on the previous two. Most
    shows do not break up on replay, but I seem to have the most problems on shows
    that are more than one hour long and are being watched while still being
    recording. The problem does occur more in HD than SD.

    In your email from you say:

    My TV is 1080p. How will these issues be resolved in the future?
    Will Dish be providing new DVRs or will they be able to resolve the problem
    during transmission? Thanks for your help.

    I am curious if this only occurs on HD channels or if it occurs on both the SD and HD channels.It may also be a cable issue or seperator that is bad. Try recording a show while watching it also to see if it occurs then also and let me know the results so we can eliminate some issues and find the root ccause of your issue.

Edy, I am not going to say that this is the definite issue but Dish only has receivers that are 1080i compatible at the time which will give you some blurring and possible pixellating. 1080p will resolve these issues in the future. Therefore if you still need help let me know.

    Edy, the introduction of 1080p receivers in the future should resolve the blurring and possible pixellating issues that are seen during fast action sequences such as a basketball player running up court. This is due to the way a 1080p fill in the TV screen as opposed to the 1080i. Progessives fill the screen line by line creating less loss of information in fast moving scenes whereas interlaced fills the screen every other line and then restarts at the top filling those that were not filled in previously hence the lag time in imaging being displayed as if in real time. When the receivers that are 1080p are introduced I expect, but can not guarantee, that Dish will offer them as an upgrade offer to existing customers. This is due to Dish not having the ability to know what resolution your set is nor when it was purchased. Currently as of the writing of this post there are no 1080p receivers available through our competition either. Dish does offer 1080p Video on Demand services through it VIP line of receivers.

    As for Toomanyknicks, if they told you this is a known receiver issue it is news to me as it is not listed on any information available to the field performing the installations. We however do not have the resources available to us that the customer service people do on their end so I apologize for my ignorance of this fact and for your ongoing issues.

    Dish will soon be introducing a new receiver called the 922 Vip model that may interest you gentleman. Another solution although I hate to suggest it would be to use the expansion port on a non DVR receiver such as a 222 to record your shows. This would require the use of your own hard drive but would eleiminate any concerns you might have with the internal device.

A VIP 612 is a single receiver, meaning it can only control one tv independently, if you do have a second Tv connected it is mirrored correct? (meaning it watches/shares the same programming as the main TV connected directly to the receiver) If so, the TV connected with RG6 cable must be on channel 3 in order to receive a picture. ViP 612 DVR hard drive is always running. I don't beleive it did this when it was new. At least I never heard it. It's about 2 years old. It is not the fan. The unit vents are clear. Tried reboot. No...

The function is always in use because of the ability to pause live tv and rewind. So its very common for the hard drive and fan to run often on DVR receivers. Does it still allow you to record programs? The best option would be to unplug it for 10-15 seconds which sounds like you have done. If the sound is becoming overbearing we can send a replacement receiver.

Dish dvr612 does not play back properly when pausing live tv. The picture is pixelated, audio is only occasional, and skips up until it gets back to live tv mode.

When i play some of my recordings they will freeze up and nothing i do on the remote will help unfreeze it,I have to unplug the thing to get it to work,whats the prob.


It appears there may have been an issue with those recordings when they were recorded. Since you stated that some of the recording are freezing, those recordings are corrupted and the problem on those recordings cannot be corrected. You may try to re-record to see if it occurs again. I hope this helps.

Satellite Receiver to Yamaha Receiver

It sounds like either on the 612 or the Yamaha Receiver that the HDMI port is faulty, thus causing the flashing picture. It sounds like the 612 to the TV works fine. I would recommend replacing the Yamaha, and if problem persists then try replacing the 612.

When setting the timer frequency to ''Weekly'' on a ViP 612 Receiver, how many weeks does it record at that hour?

Indefinitely until it is discontinued manually. Or the program no longer comes on at that time. Thanks for using Fix Ya.

Receiver freezes every few hours

It sounds like something else may be causing an issue. Since so many replacements have been made, but the problem persists I would recommend getting a technician out to look at the problem to make sure everything else is fine.
