Question about Onkyo TX-SR606 Receiver

Upscale from 480p Signal via HDMI

I cannot get the SR606 to upscale my Standard Def signals from Direct TY.   I have a Nintendo Wii plugged in via Component and that upscales to 1080i, but my Standard Def Direct TV channels always show up as 480p.  In the receiver menu I have Output Resolution set to 1080i.  I was sold this receiver with the Salesman promising me it would upconvert this content.
Please Help!

Ok the problem might not be with your receiver it is with your direct tv settings. Double check to make sure you go to the format and set it up to be fixed or 1080i whichever will give you the highest resolution. Check your manual for the direct tv receiver. If this is all correct for the DTV then you must go into the setup on the receiver and at hardware icon toward bottom check on that box, now goto the hdmi settings and make sure it is set to through. this will allow the best picture with no upscaling which will degregade picture for blu ray. so your direct tv will be only 1080i but very impressive. if you still want to upscale you can then you have to change the hdmi settings from before to upscale 1080p . I just hope that your dtv can output 1080i it will give a better picture than 480p even if both are upscaled to 1080p
Oh i forgot to ask if you are connected through hdmi to the tv. Hdmi is the only option for upscaling

My panasonic HDD/DVD and Onkyo606 will only pass through a TV 576p signal from the coax aerial using hdmi from the DVD to the 606 and then hdmi from the 606 to the TV. If I connect the Panny to the Onkyo 606 using component then the signal gets through to my Panny TV as a 1080i signal. I can see in the Onkyo book that this is to be expected but I must admit to being confused because I thought that hdmi was the best connection in all cases.

WHAT TYPE OF CABLE DO I NEED TO CONNECT HP NC6400 LAPTOP TO HD TV TO WATCH MOVIE ON TV FROM LAPTOP? VGA TO HDMI CABLE? THANKS

Hi.

The best way is to get a s-video converter to connect your round s-video computer output to your HDMI port on your tv. This is the best you can do according to your laptop connections. You will need a s-video cable, HDMI upscale converter box and HDMI cable.

The other way is to plug a VGA cable to your tv VGA port if you have one.

VGA to HDMI is also possible with a converter. A standard VGA cable with a HDMI plug on the other side will not work because your computer sends out an analog video signal and HDMI is digital only.

Hope it helps!

My wii won't play video through my Yamaha RX-V465. The audio comes through OK. I have a normal signal video component cable and i have connected the receiver to the TV with a HDMI cable. i have tried...

This receiver doesn't support processing of video signal, only switching. This means that it can output only the same format of video. Only some more expensive models do upscaling from component/composite to HDMI out.

From HDMI out, you can output only signal that came via HDMI in 1-3. For component out, you can output only component in. The same for composite.

So in order to use wii through receiver to TV, you must connect receiver and TV also via the component cables.

Or other option is to connect component from wii directly to TV and connect only audio to receiver.

Onkyo TX-SR606 takes up to 30 minutes to display 1080p

Please don't rate me for this. Onkyo has been having voltage problems with their HDMI boards in several models. Yours is one of them. They first instructed techs to replace some capacitors, then add some capaictors to repair the voltage problems. Now they want us to replace the HDMI boards but I have yet to receive any (on back-order) Sorry for the bad news.

My player seems not able to upscale the signal from my antennea and DVDs

Upscaling will only occur when playing DVDs. You have to use an HDMI connection from the DVD player to the tv. For upscaling of DVD's you will also have to setup the upscaling resolution in the DVD player's setup menu. Be sure to set the resolution to one that your tv will support.

If your tv does not have a HDMI input, then you will not be able to use the upscaling feature.

Upscaling will not occur on antenna signals. This is not possible because the hardware (inside DVD player) is only meant to upscale DVD video.

Again, to upscale DVDs ONLY, you will have to have an HDMI cable going from DVD player to TV, set up your upscaling options on your DVD setup menu and have a TV that has a HDMI input and is capable of recieving the upscaled resolution you have set your DVD player to.

If you have any further question regarding this, let me know!

If it is me and I am spending that kind of money, it is going to be sick, os here is sick. 7.1 dolby surround and 1080P HDMI, 135W per channel, and right now if you go to FRYS.com, it is normally $500.00 bt for right now it is only $449.00. But if you put this in, be prepared to buy a PS/3 as your next investment (Th best way to get Blu-RaY at an affordable price, plus many other features) and an upconvert DVD layer, which is only about $100.00 or less today. Then you better get ready to hear from your neighbors and the cops, because they are going to think a war has broken out in your place. Enjoy, I play movies that the sound is just so realistic, I hate to leave the house anymore. Also, remember, speaker placement is key, so know the optimal environment for your system and if you need one, I may be able to hook you up with a system room tuning DVD for next to nothing. This will allow you to setup your system and place your speakers optimally for your environment. good Luck.

Does not play multichannel audio (5.1) input through optical digital audio

Hi try this.

in the dvd player make sure you just leave it default (bitstream) but in the home theater receiver don't select 5.1 b/c that will only give you a virtual 5.1 not a true 5.1. In fact don't select any sound field at all just select dolby digital or dts depending on the source of the movie then you should be ok.

The only other problem i can see is that hdmi sends both the sound and picture to the tv. You will need to see if there's a function on the dvd player to only send the picture via hdmi and the sound via the optical out of the dvd player.

good luck

smeags.
