Distorted video display HP Pavilon a1257c

I purchased a refurbished HP Pavilon a1257c a few years ago and now, on any monitor, I get a matrix of scrolling grids that distort whatever is on my screen. How can the problem be remedied?

My dell monitor display is hourglass shaped. I have uploaded latest graphics cards no difference. I came across an article that suggested it was my monitor. And It is a problem with condensation.

    Any help would be appreciated.

There may be a problem with settings using the external adjustments on the monitor. Some are very sensitive and you have to make small adjustments at a time using 2 or more adjustment choices. Hope this helps.

How do i fix the distorted, halogram-like video pictures on my computer?

First of all, how old is your display? Second, how did that happen in the first place? Finally, was your display recalled because of inherent video artifacts like the one you're describing? You should check with your OEM before making any queries on sites like this.

This sounds like a problem with the hardware electronics of the LCD the green blocks are a symptom of that. You can see if that is the case by attaching an external monitor and clicking the Fn key and one of the F keys at the top row of the keyboard that transfers the video output either to the LCD or to an external monitor or both - so you have to press that key a few times.

It may be possible to repair this problem by opening the screen, replacing some parts etc. but it is not easy or cheap. There is high voltage within the screen ic board so be careful.

I am having a problem with the display. It seems to flicker and become distorted and the cursor drags with a shadow. could this be my video card

It could be your video card. To confirm, use a different monitor with your computer and see if the same problem happens with the other monitor.
If the other monitor works fine, then the problem is with the original monitor; otherwise its the video card.
If the video card is built-in to your motherboard, there's not much you can do to fix it. If it's a separate card, I would suggest taking out the video card, inspecting the connectors for debris, and then re-insert the card. This "reseating" of the card might resolve your problem.
Make sure that you disconnect the power cable from your computer to prevent you from electrocuting yourself.

Distorted display

Hi,

You could isolate the problem if it is a monitor / video card problem by removing the cable (VGA/DVI) and see if the self test feature will have a distorted display

If Yes - Monitor Problem
If No - Video Card Problem or Software problem

If no, try to go to safe mode by tapping "F8" once you turn the computer on.
1. Select Safe mode (Check for video distortion)
2. Select Enable VGA Mode (Check for video distortion)

If one of the 2 is distorted the video card has a problem

If one of them doesn't show any distorted video it means its a driver/software problem.

Hope this helps.

Screen image appears fuzzy, jumpy and broken up into lines.

gardenman13, I would certainly complain to HP about their w22 monitor!! Find out if the units warranty is still valid and can be swapped-out for a REFURBISHED unit. Your w22 shouldn't be hazy, distorted, or flicker for any reason. My best guess is that it (w22) has problems inside with it's "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" and electronic ballast circuit called an INVERTER circuit, which could also cause the main "switch-mode-power-supply" to go a little NUTS upon STARTUP!! FYI you are dealing with a technology similar to the curlie-Q CFL screw-in light bulbs. Their ballast's are called CONVERTERs (ac to ac) and are cheaper. Your lanps are thinner and straight, hung on rear of your LCD panel. I hope this was informative. Please rate this on fixya. 12fixlouie

Rich most likely this monitor needs capacitor replacement if you can solder you can do it, you just need to order or get the bad capacitors that need replacement so you need to open the case and get at the power board. once you can get at the blown caps you can see whats damaged and what is OK usually it is 1 or 2 capacitors at about 50 cents each. and about 1 hour of your time.
let me know what your doing, good luck
