Question about HP LaserJet 6L Printer

Marks on printed sheet

I just replaced the toner cartridge, which was defective. Spilled toner inside the printer. After cleaning up, I still have marks printing on the right margin of paper, spaced evenly. I have cleaned the wheels, etc as best I can. Any ideas where I am picking up this toner?

Toner powder is so fine that it hides under parts that you can't see. By all means, DO NOT blow it out with canned air! Get a vacuum with a fine filter that can hold toner and remove the toner cartridge. Then vacuum out the inside of the printer as thoroughly as possible. Especially clean out along the paper path and where the cartridge goes in. It may still print a few dirty pages, but after several pages, it should go away.

I have a problem with the colour prints...there are different kind of lines all over the page..how can i clean the laser heads?is there any automatically way?

Hi,
Dots, Lines and smudges on the printouts are due to deteriorating cartridges and cleaning the green drum of the cartridge may help temporarily. Take out the cartridge and gently clean the roller/ green drum with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth wiping off the toner dots marks/ lines. (corresponding to the location where you are having a green line on the paper)
Also, make sure that the visible inside of the printer is clean and there is no spilled toner inside, which sometimes results in dots.
Moreover, streaks (thicker lines) and dots etc indicate faulty PCR Roller which is located behind the green drum inside the cartridge. Replace the Cartridge or get the PCR Roller changed by a professional.
Try cleaning the toners and see if it makes any difference. You would also have an idea about the toner drum/ parts quality etc and check if they need to be replaced. Furthermore, issues with Laser Unit like dust/ toner dust on the lenses and mirrors inside the printer usually result in faded or discolored prints. For instance, faded text/ picture at certain areas or any color missing when you print.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

Print defects on HP 3380 and 3330 Multifunction Printers

If you are having a repetive defect appearing on your printer page, here is the quick and easy way to determine if you have a serious problem with your printer or just a bad print cartridge. To use this ruler, you need to measure from the start of the first defect to the start of the second. Find the defect below that matches that distance. Please note that this chart may not be to scale, measure and use the actual distances printer on the chart.

baronvonnuke_0.jpg
The first 2 defects are caused by a defective toner cartridge.

The next 3 defects are caused by physical problems in the printer.

The last defect is caused by a bad print cartridge.

The physical problems can sometimes be caused by spilled toner in the machine, so if you have one of the three physical defects, remove the cartridge and inspect the inside of your printer. If you see a bunch of loose toner in the printer, you can try cleaning it out with a cloth like a swiffer cloth. Be sure to turn unit off before putting hands into the cartridge area and be careful not to damage any components.

Printing spots vertically in 2 areas on both sides of paper. no manual and can't get into it online - how do I clean whatever needs cleaning?

Open printer and remove the cartridge and check t see if there is toner spilled inside. These types of defects are often caused by a bad toner cartridge. If you do see toner inside, you can wipe it up with a soft cloth or a swiffer if you have one. Do not use a standard vacuum to clean it as the toner dust is so fine it will get into the air and into your lungs. Try a different cartridge. You may have to print 050-100 pages to clear the defect.

Quilt y of print !, it gives double printing on page one is print of original doc.& second as its image what should i do to improve its print quilt y. i will be thank full to you

Hi,
Dots, Lines, shadows and smudges on the printouts are due to dirty/ deteriorating cartridge and cleaning the green drum of the cartridge may help temporarily. Take out the cartridge and gently clean the roller/ green drum with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth wiping off the toner dots marks/ lines.
Also, make sure that the visible inside of the printer is clean and ther is no spilled toner inside, which sometimes results in dots. Double printing is also due to the deteriorating cartridge. The drum is not getting clean after its each rotation and hence the remaining toner/ image is transferred to the paper resulting in double printing. So, it is recommended that clean the drum etc (this would help temporarily). Also, make sure that the toner cartridge is in good working condition. If not you may replace the cartridge.
Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

HP Laserjet 5P shading edges of page

This is probably due to a defective cartridge, Charge Roller or Transfer roller.

Check the cartridge for a band of toner still on the drum.

Check the Charge roller for oil or smudges, this roller should be a lighter color and should be relatively free of toner or marks.

Same as the Transfer Roll, which will be dark, though excess toner should be evident.

A relatively smooth straight line is generally the cartridge.

A rather wavey or broken line is most likely the rollers.

You can however attempt to print a large amount of pages (25-50) in an attempt to clean the parts, however if either part is defective they will need to be replaced and no manner of printing will clean them.

  • Buxie, first off you have voided your warrenty, secondly
  • If marks repeatedly appear on the printed side of the
    page at even intervals:
    • Clean the inside of the printer. See “Cleaning the
Inside of the Printer” on page 5.7. After cleaning
the inside of the printer, if you still have the same
problems, install a new toner cartridge of the
problem color. See “Replacing Toner Cartridges” on
    page 5.3.
    • Parts of the printer may have toner on them. If the
defects occur on the back of the page, the problem
will likely correct itself after a few more pages.
    • The fusing assembly may be damaged. Contact a
    service representative.
  • If horizontally aligned color or black streaks or
    smears appear:
    • A toner cartridge may be installed improperly.
Remove the toner cartridge and reinsert.
    • A toner cartridge may be defective. Install a new
    toner cartridge.
    • If the problem persists, the printer may require
    repair. Contact a service representative.
  • SXPRESS- It is normal to have to replace it after that because the starter cartridges are rated for 1500 pages but that is at only 5% page coverage and most people print alot higher coverage than that, and the replacements cover 2000 pages again @ 5% page Coverage
