When it feeds ok, it says it has no paper. So i press ok to try again and it says it's jammed

Any copy or print job causes a paper jam. When loading paper, the printer immediately feeds the first sheet half-way in, then stops and says the printer is ready. When a print job is sent, the printer feeds that first sheet all the way through (without any hang ups), then feeds the second sheet halfway in. The rollers continue to run for several seconds, but the paper doesn't move beyond that half-way mark. It then stops and gives a paper jam error. I have to pull the half-fed sheet out forcefully, then it will clear the error if there is no paper in the tray, but when placing fresh paper in, the exact same process repeats.

I've shut it off, unplugged the power, and reset the printer a half dozen times without changing this error. This problem started right after changing an ink cartridge and running a single cleaning cycle. The first attempt to run a pattern check started this error. Attempts to make a copy or run any other print job produce the same error.

Take any paper out of the paper feeder and get a plastic ruler the softer the better lift the top of the printer up so you can see where the print cartridges are now push the ruler down through the paper feed roller be careful because you could break the rollers go from left to right right to left twice and check for any debris once you have done this unplug the printer for about 20 seconds then plug back in and let it reset then try copying or printing a doc and see how you go!

Printer says paper jam, but there is no jam. Everytime it is to print, the alarm light comes on and says to remove paper jam. No jam is there!

Printers use either small 'flags' to detect paper presence or passage or a photo-optical interrupter. The first can be damaged by a previous jam and the latter can fail.
If you have ever used label stock or another adhesive-treated stock, you may have residue from these and without disassembling the printer, you won't be able to determine the exact cause of the erroneous paper-jam error.
Do a search on your brand and model to see if there is a site or tech with specific knowledge of your printer.

My Canon Pixma MP600R insists that paper is jamed in machine, despite the fact that jam has been cleared and paper is being ejected when machine is switched on

The simplest thing would be to try unplugging the printer from the power source. Let it rest for 5 - 10 minutes then plug back in to the power supply and see if that resolves the problem.

If not you are going to need to do a thorugh inspection to verify that all paper remnants have been removed.

The following is for the MP600:

Issue: ERROR LCD: The paper is jammed. Clear the paper and press [OK].
Solution: Removing paper jams MP600

Clearing credit card-sized paper jammed inside the printer
Credit card-sized and 4" x 6" sized paper must be loaded properly. If this media is not loaded properly, it will feed into the printer and will not exit. Credit card-sized paper should only be loaded in the ASF and in portrait orientation. 4" x 6" sized paper can be loaded in the ASF or cassette. But must be loaded portrait orientation.
If credit card-sized paper was loaded in landscape orientation in the ASF and did not eject (exit), please follow this procedure.

  1. Turn off the printer.

  2. Load the same paper type that is jammed inside the printer in portrait orientation.

    05sj00147_01.jpg

  3. Power on the printer.
The paper stock in the ASF will automatically feed the jammed paper from the printer.

  4. To resume printing, load the paper in portrait orientation.

If 4" x 6" sized paper was loaded in landscape orientation in the cassette and did not eject (exit), please follow this procedure.
  1. Turn off the printer.

  2. Open the rear cover.

  3. Fold in four a piece of letter-sized plain paper.

  4. Push in the folded paper until it hits the jammed paper.

    05sj00147_02.jpg

  5. If the jammed paper is visible from inside the printer area, pull it out and proceed to step 7.

  6. If the jammed paper cannot be pulled out, push in the folder paper from the rear so the jammed paper is in between the feed rollers.

  7. Pull out the folded paper and close the rear cover.

  8. Power on the printer and confirm that the Alarm light is off.
The jammed paper should automatically eject.

  9. To resume printing, load the paper in portrait orientation.

Printer stopped working. I just added new ink supply. Alarm light flashes. Printer status says "service error 6A00"--"check printer" "cancel printing and press the ok button." None of this works. And I...

Hi
Error 6A00
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.

Solution 1:
Move the printhead carriage back and forth a few times.

Solution 2:
Check the purge unit: Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

Solution 3:
Press the ink pads down in the purge unit.
