I have the exact same problem and have just been informed that its lens damage. check the recording settings and the digital effects, make sure everythings switched off. then try resetting the whole thing with the tiny button on the right hand side.

if none of this works you will need to replace the lens. good luck

Sam,
Is the green color apparent in the recording if played back on something other that the camcorder? If it's simply there in viewer (ccd) then you might want to know that Sony is more than aware of ccd problems with that unit and there is an active recall on that cam.
You can call Sony at 1-866-703-7669 and if they determine that the ccd is the problem they will even send you a prepaid shipping lable...
If the color variation is also there in the recording - played back on something other than the camcorder - then the optic sensor, logic board or something else is the culprit.

After turning it on, there is no display on the screen. When you operate the zoom nothing happens

If you can still work the controls from the LCD screen and see images from previous recorded tapes, but NOT see any current image thru either the LCD screen or thru the viewfinder then its a faulty CCD Image Sensor. Sony had a bad production run of the sensor chip from 2002 to 2004 affecting products from 2002 till who knows when. This affected other camera manufacturers too since they bought their sensors from Sony. A Sony "service advisory" in October 2005 would fix for "free" anybody coming forward with the problem. This freebie ended in October 2007. Mine went just last month. Cost to fix by Sony...$160 + shipping. There are quite a few non-working handycams on EBAY for an average of $15. Seems to me this was big enough to be an Official Recall.

This camera may have a lens problem??

Hi,
Let me know bit detail of problem...
You can not see live view on LCD and view finder in camera mode and can playback old recordings and picture result is OK,
If yes, then its bad ccd imager problem and ccd imager will be replaced.

DCR-TRV265E is PAL camera and I assume that you are in UK.

Here I provide you information to save 400 or some thing.
Sony will repair ccd imager problem free of cost. You can have details on Sony CCD Support.

LCD screen went dead

The problem is a bad CCD inside the camera. I have 3 bad ones in my classroom. Sony was providing free service for some of their other models but failed to provide service (recall) on these models. I think it is important to contact Sony at 1-866-703-7669 and ask them why they are not providing support for this model since it has to do with a bad chip inside the camera. Sony should stand behind their consumer products and keep in mind that some people who use the consumer brands also use or recommend the professional brands to organizations like WEVA and others. If they do not support the consumer line products, will they support the more expensive industrial or professional products? Let's go Sony...fix these problems...there are too many of these cameras which have gone bad to say that it is not a CCD problem.

I own the same camera, I have had the same problem on and off for years. Here is what the solution is: ON THE TOP OF THE CAMERA THERE ARE A COUPLE OF BUTTONS WHERE THE PLAYBACK IS AND REWIND ETC... YOU WILL ALSO SEE SEE A BUTTON " BLC / MULTI DISP. wHEN YOUR VIEWER IS BLACK PRESS AND HOLD THAT DOWN AND YOUR PICTURE WILL COME BACK UP. I don't know what this feature is for maybe a lousy fade control, but this will bring your picture back in to the viewfinder. Good Luck...
