Sounds like the chain oiler is plugged up and the chain is getting hot and stretching.

The chain does not move

Have you checked to make sure the chain brake is not engaged?? Also check to see if the chain is installed too tightly. If so, loosen the two bar nuts and turn the chain tension adjusting screw CCW until you get slight movement of the chain then retighten the bar nuts.

The chain/bar won't stay tight. Becomes loose after several minutes of use.

If the nuts holding your guide bar are not worn, then you must replace the tensioner adjustment

How do I put the chain back on the blade

Loosen the screws that hold the blade in place and make it "shorter" by pushing the blade in. Put the chain on it and extend the blade out until it's tight again, but not too tight. It should have a little give to it. Retighten the screws that hold the blade in place.

I can't keep the tension on the blade tight. After a short period of use it loosens up and won't stay on the bar.

Check threads on tension bolt may be worn or adjuster threads that bolt screws into may b worn. Odd thing is if bar plate is tight bar should not move.

I can't unlock the blade.

Do you mean the chain won't move, or you can't get the blade off? The chain brake must be off to allow the chain to move. The chain brake handle has a housing that engages a gear attached to the chain brake inside the cover where the blade is attached. The brake must be off to remove the cover (usually held on by two nuts). The blade tension screw should be loosened to allow the blade to be removed, then retightened when replacing the blade. Tightening it pushes the blade out from the saw, so if it is tight, you won't be able to remove the blade. Hope this helps.

Chain wont tighten Large Knob will not turn.

Try loosening the nuts that hold the cover to the blade slightly. This will allow the chain tensioner to move to the proper tension. Then retighten the nuts to their original tightness.

When using the saw, the chain doesn't stay tight on the bar.

Should be a nut on the side of chainsaw that covers the chain, sometimes all that is needed is to loosen nut them pull outwards on chain bar and retighten nut. Chain should have some play in it so dont make the chain hug the bar tightly. There is also an adjustment screw next to the bar that will tighten and loosen the chain but is used for small adjustments only.

I have a poulan pro 260 chainsaw and just replaced the bar and chain. Tighten chain and brake nuts and after a few seconds of cutting the bar is shaking and the chain is loose. Switched back to the old bar...

check the cog that the chain runs on, the one on the back of the centrifugal clutch they are supposed to be changed when you change the bar ((i dont bother until iget symptoms like yours or the chain starts to get tight and loose tight and loose)

If the chain locks up it may be to tight. Try loosening the chain and see if the same problem happens.

Ryobi battery chainsaw 10" - How do I tighten the chain?

loosen the two nuts that hold the chain cover on. Once they are just loose, then use a flat blade screw driver to turn the slot that you see right next to the base of the chain. Once the chain is tight, retighten the two nuts.
