Question about Haier Cell Phones

8 Answers

Hi, I bought a Haier Y-MP3850 in America but when I insert my O2 UK SIM, it just says 'No network'. Since it supports GSM I thought it should work but I can't find any supporting documentation on the internet, can you help please?

Both the user manual on the CD and the paper one in the box were pretty vague and only skimmed the surface -

    Network setting
In the main menu, select Settings>Network>Network opts. or Edit
    password.
    1. Select Network opts.>Automatic, Manual, Select Ntwk or Add
network to search network in different ways.
    2. Select Edit password to change the network password.

Not very informative really, I'm sure you'll agree. What I need to know please, is should it work and if so how, or is the phone defective?
    Thanks,
    Lee

If the phone is locked on to a network, as one expert suggested, I don't seem to be able to find an Unlock Calculator for it anywhere - other Haier models yes, but not mine. I paid $15 last night to a company only to be told that the model doesn't exist!

Tthe phone could be defective or its just not able to be set up for the uk sim card.it sounds like it just wont accept your sim card.you bought the phone in the united states and took it to the uk where it may not be programmable for the area or country you live in

Hi there.
The phone is locked to one network, there are no FREE codes to unlock it!!
You will have to get in touch with the original service provider (the provider the phones locked to) to get the full unlock code, they may charge a small fee for this.
Other than that, take it to a shop to have it unlocked, but again you will have to pay a small fee.

Kind regards and thanks for using Fixya!!

Hi,
Your phone is a dual band GSM phone and will be supporting 85/1900 MHZ frequency settings only.
So please check once that on what frequency your SIM operator is providing the services.
Reinsert your sim and then manualy search the network once.

Ideally yes. but it may not be a real "unlocked" phone. Alternatively another issue could be the phone from UK may not work in your local (not sure your country) frequencies.

When i insert the sim no network coverage show on screen buat when i insert the same sim in other mobile i get full network .so i whant to what is the problem with my set sony ericsson j108.

I assume that your phone is unlocked and in working order (does it work with any other SIM?).
You need to either manually or automatically select the correct network and GSM band for your specific SIM card.
The J108 is a GSM Quad band phone:
GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900, 3G 2100

Hope it helps.

Is my iphone blocked ?

Is your sim card csm or cdma? I'm not sure if the iphone can handle both, but I know it works with GSM.

If you have a gsm sim card, then you just need to unlock it. Of course, Apple won't let certain carriers use their phones legally. So you have to unlock it. I don't remember the exact process, but there's a good program to help you through it step by step.

Go to this site and read up before trying to do anything technical with your phone (link)wikee.iphwn.org

There's a lot of informtion there, so make sure to read up to find what's best for you. You'll need to know the firmware your phone is using 1.1.4 to 2.2 you need to know. The site I posted should have all the info for you.

Again, if your sim card is gsm, it should be no problem to use your sim.

Alright, good luck.

Caid.
