When a washing machine allows cold water to enter the tub depends greatly upon its make and model. Some washing machines direct cold water only during certain cycles. Others allow hot and cold water to enter in an alternating fashion in order to equalize the water temperature. The first thing you should do is refer to your owner's manual to ensure that your washer is not operating as it should. If you discover that it isn't, investigate the machine's water inlet valve. It could be defective, and causing your problem.

Directions for testing a washing machine water inlet valve.

Before you begin to test your washer's water inlet valve, make sure you disconnect the appliance's power supply. The easiest way to do this is to unplug the unit from the wall. Alternatively, you could trip the appropriate switch in the circuit breaker panel, or you could remove the appropriate fuse from your home's fuse box.
Start this repair by locating your washer's water inlet valve. It will be at the back of the washer, and it will have water hoses hooked up to the back of it. Shut off the supply of water to your washer. Disconnect both hoses at the back of the washer. You might want to try pointing the hoses into a bucket or a sink, and then turning on the water supply again. Do this to confirm that you are receiving adequate water pressure, and that there is not some sort of blockage in the line.
Inspect the screens found inside the valve. Clean out any debris you find. You should be able to pop them out with a flat head screwdriver. Do use caution when handling the screens as they are irreplaceable.
There are two solenoids on the water valve. These solenoids are sometimes referred to as coils. There will be two wires attached to each solenoid. Be sure to label each of the wires so that you are able to properly reconnect them later. These wires are held in place with metal slip on connectors. Grasp firmly on each connector, one at a time, to disconnect the wire from the solenoid. Do not pull directly on the wire, pull from the metal connector.
Set your multitester to the ohms resistance scale X 1. Place each of the meter's probes to one terminal. Because the reading can vary from brand to brand and from model to model, there is no one reading you should receive. However, if your test produces a reading of infinity, then the solenoid is bad and the water valve should be replaced.

ERROR CODE 1E SAMSUNG TOP LOADER

The manufacturer has assigned this error or fault code to indicate that the washer is not filling with water. Check to be sure the water supply valves are open. Also, check to be sure the water supply hoses aren't kinked or clogged. Next, remove the hoses from the washing machine and run water into a bucket to test the pressure and flow of the water. If all of these check out and you have good water pressure and flow to the machine, you should replace the water inlet valve. TO TEST IT SEE PICS ATTACHED

Ge washer whre5550k2ww problem. KEEPS FILLING UP WITH WATER PAST NORMAL LEVELS. I HAVE TO STOP IT AND THEN IT FILLS TOO FULL AND OVERFLOWS. WATER SENSOR BAD?

If you want to check this, it may be your problem.
If you will take the top of the washer apart, after unplugging it, you may find a clear plastic hose attached to the switch that controls the water level in the washer. Check that clear plastic hose from top to bottom. If it is not working right, the water will overflow as you have said. The hose can have no leaks, holes, or loose connections top or bottom., If that hose is good, you may have a bad switch for the water level.
I hope this helps.
Be blessed.

LF COMES ON MY FRONT LOADER LED SCREEN

LF error means "Long Fill". Whirlpool uses a flow meter that detects the flow of water entering the washer. If this flow meter does not detect the correct amount of water entering the washer it will sound the LF error code. Often this repair can be made with out calling an appliance repairman and without ordering parts. Start by removing the washer fill hoses; both the cold and the hot water hoses. Check for proper water pressure from the house. To do so, turn the water on and put the hose inside the washer or a bucket.

If water pressure is good, check the water valve inlet screens. Most residential washing machines have inlet screens. The screens prevent minerals from clogging the solenoid. With the hoses removed, you can visually inspect the water inlet screens. If the water valve screens are clear the inlet valve with the screens itself will need to be replaced. To replace the water valve, remove the top of the washing machine. Three screws hold the top down. The screws that hold the top down are on the back of the top panel. Once removed the top will slide back and off. Now remove the wire harness that connects to the valve. One screw holds the valve to the washers cabinet. Removing the screw and sliding the valve over will release the valve from the back panel enabling you to complete your repair.

One last thing to check is the fill hoses. These front load washers call for a lot of water quickly. So if you have stainless steel braided flood-safe hoses, they will trip for no reason at all. Replace these flood safe hoses with more traditional hoses. If the hoses are good and you haven't found anything slowing down the flow of the water, your electronic inlet water valve is just faulty on the back of your washer and will need to be replaced because it's just not allowing water flow into the washer correctly.
Here is the valve to order in case it is faulty.

MY GE front loader washer won't fill with water or spin. I hear a hum when I turn it on and it sounds as if it's about to start a cycle but nothing happens.

It sounds as if your water valve is either clogged or the solenoid is stuck and not letting any water in. Here is a checklist of things you should do to help isolate the problem:
1) check to make sure the water is on
2) turn the water off and remove the water lines and verify that both the lines and the screens on the valve are clear of debris, calcium, etc.
3) take the top off the machine where you can actually see the valve, turn the machine on and see if the vavle is the humming noise that you are hearing. If so and no water is coming out then the valve is bad.

My GE Top loader washer seems like it will not fill up with enough water to move on the next step in the cycle unless I put it on small load then it starts on the next cycle but runs out of water and...

First make sure the screens in the hoses and the water inlet valve are clean and you have good water flow. Here is a link for checking the water inlet valve screens http://appliancehelponline.com/topwaterinletvideo.html

Now if water flow is not the problem the problem is going to be the pressure switch. Here is a link for that http://appliancehelponline.com/toppressureswitchvideo.html
Both repairs are easy and inexpensive to repair.

Washer over flowed on fill up

This advice is for a washer that fills and will not shut off, resulting in an overflow. Or, water is leaking from the washer while filling. The symptoms can apply to either a TOP LOADER or FRONT LOADER washer. This may be able to save you from an expensive service call by making these simple visual checks.

Water Does Not Shut Off and Overflows: The water level in a washer is controlled by the Pressure Switch. The switch is usually cylindrical in shape and has an electrical connection and an air hose attached. In many cases, the small air hose comes loose from the Pressure Switch fitting and/or falls off. This air hose is required to detect the air pressure from the wash tub as tub fills. With no air pressure, the switch will not function and the result will be a wash tub that fills continuously to the point of overflowing. The same would be true, if the air hose has any cracks, splits or holes in it.

Water Leaking While Filling: The other end of this hose runs to the air dome fitting on the side of the wash tub. If the lower end of the hose comes off, the water will begin to spill onto the floor under the washer, but the tub will not fill.

What to Look For: Check for the obvious. Make sure the air hose is still attached to the pressure switch and air dome. Then, inspect the entire length of the hose, paying particular attention to areas where chaffing may occur and at the points where the hose connects to the pressure switch and air dome. Vibrations from the washer can cause some wear if the hose is rubbing against anything, and the ends of the hose can stretch over time and not seal properly.

On most top loaders the Pressure Switch is located inside the operator console behind the knob that controls the water level. This knob is commonly referred to as the "Load Level", "Load Size" or "Water Level". On front loader washers the pressure switch location is usually located in the back of the washer behind the wash tub, or along the interior cabinet wall adjacent to the wash tub.

How to Correct: If the hose has slipped off, cut about ½" off the end of the hose and reattach to the pressure switch and/or air dome fitting. Take a small zip tie and place it around the hose at the point where it connects to the fitting. DO NOT over tighten as this can damage the air hose fitting. Just make the zip tie snug enough to keep the air hose from sliding off. If the hose has any cracks or holes, you can attempt to seal them by using electrical tape. Replacement tubing can be purchased at any hardware store.

NOTE: This is not an all inclusive fix, as the Pressure Switch can fail in some cases and cause similar symptoms. This is merely a preliminary check for a common occurrence that I have discovered. It can give symptoms of a major problem, resulting in a call for a repairman, only to turn out to be a simple fix that any Do-It-Yourselfer should be able to check and correct themselves. I hope this information is found to be helpful and saves many of you a future service call.

If disconnecting power does not stop the water fill, replace the washer's inlet water valve. It is the part the fill hoses screw onto on the back of the machine.
