We have a igloo counter top ice maker the ice has a metal taste to it.

Taste is generally associated with the water entering the freezer chamber. You should have a FILTER in line with the ice maker to avoid the problem.

After installing a stainlesssteel braided hose for my ice maker ( replaed a copper line) the ice cubes taste metalic. Is this normal?

Hi,

No Its not normal, first of all did you flush the entire line and replace the filter at the same time? All of this is a factor. A stainless steel line is nothing more than a rubber hose wrapped in a steel mess, it very easy to move around and install. I think allow time for the water to settle and flush out the entire water system with a filter change should fix this issue.

Good Luck

Ice maker not working

The activity with the water supply could have loosened some sediment in the line stopping up the little wire screen filter going into the water inlet valve. I would disconnect it and inspect the screen and flush the water line out before re connecting. Assuming you have water at the water dispenser Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

Water lines i think are ok but cant get water or make ice

Check the following:

See if the fridge has a water filter...it could be plugged and need replacement...check your manual for the location and replacement procedures

Check the inlet water line to the ice maker...it could be frozen...a hair dryer can be used to thaw it out and get the ice make to work again...be careful and don't overheat the ice maker inlet water line.

Make sure the water line is ok and not obstructed or kinked

Check the ice maker water valve to be sure it opens and isn't clogged

Cycle the arm on the ice maker and wait to see if it will make ice again

Ice maker

My wife installed a new filter and didn't purge (AKA flush) it enough. As a result, my ice maker quit. Since there was air in the line, the water feed into the ice maker froze. You should check your water feed. In your freezer, look to the top right part of your ice maker. You will see a short (2 inches or so) black tube that feeds water into a piece a plastic on your ice maker that looks like a small cup. Squeeze the tube to see if frozen. If it is, there is probably also a frozen pool of water in the 'ice maker' cup. You can use a hairdryer but be very careful as you can melt the plastic. My service guy took out the ice maker and ran it under hot water. He used a small screw driver to get the ice out of the black hose. Removing the ice maker looked pretty easy. You can remove the ice maker door (it justs snaps out). the ice maker also just slides out. If you are not comfortable removing the wire connection, there's enough plat in the wire to allow you access to the frozen cup of water. You could pour hot water over the ice maker while it remains connected. When done, cut power to the entire frig for about a minute. This will reset the ice maker. Note that you may have a wait a few minutes to actually hear the ice maker fill with water since it has a timer mechanism.

Whirlpool refrigerator waterline is clogged

go to the back of the ref, trace the incoming water line, it should go to a two pc solenoid valve. if you press water at the front, one of the solenoid should click. the one that didn't click is the one for the ice maker. see if you can detach the water line that comes out of that solenoid. that line goes to the ice maker. you can flush it with water to clean it. be aware that a lot of water would be overflowing inside the ice maker . i hope i was able to solve your problem..
