Not sure which messenger you are using, but will send two and if its not the right ones let me know and I'll send them to you.
Normal 0 See section C. Windows Live Messenger in the info below to setup the Audio & Video.
Also send this to your family and friends so they have their computer setup properly.
Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.
Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.
A. Skype Setup:
After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
  4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.
The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.

  1. Windows Live Messenger:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=d78f2ff1-79ea-4066-8ba0-ddbed94864fc&displaylang=en
  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: Your audio and video should work. Enjoy.
When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud

I have a Logitech C200 They can hear and cee me clearly But I can't hear them what am I doing wrong?

What type of speakers/headset are you using? Have the speakers been muted? Try listening to something on your computer (a CD in the optical drive/sound from a game or web site).

I have a Windows computer (laptop) that needed the audio restarted to improve the volume from the speakers. To do this, under Windows 7/Vista, Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Component Services. Then in the Services section, select all audio related items (one by one) and stop them. Then Restart them.

Rebooting the computer may help.

Is the microphone turned on/plugged in on the other machine? Has that microphone been muted? Have the other party check if the microphone is the active audio in device. (Windows usually can be set for Mic or Line In but not both. To check this, if they have Windows 7, they need to: click Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices. Then click on the Recordings tab.) For mute, check the microphone properties for the device (this may be in the software/drivers and will depend on the type of microphone).

I hope this helps.

Sound problems

It is most likely the camera at their end, as they are able to see and hear you clearly. Try to position your speakers away from sources of electromagnetic interference as well, and tell the other party to do the same with their microphone. Ask them to run an audio configuration test for their mic as well.

Video sound problem

Durring video conferencing with MSN Messenger, I can't hear my friend and he can't hear me. Or I can hear them but they can't hear me. What's wrong? trnsp.gif Answer This article applies to the following products:
All Logitech Web Cameras with MSN Messenger Support
This article applies to the following software:
Windows XP
Test the Microphone in Sound Recorder

  1. Click "Start," > "Programs" ("All Programs" for Windows XP) > "Accessories" > "Entertainment" > "Sound Recorder."
  2. Click the Record button and speak into the microphone of the camera. You should see the green line move, indicating the application is picking up sound.
  3. Click the Stop button.
  4. Click the Play button. If there is no sound at playback, check to make sure the correct device is selected.
    1. Click "Edit," then "Audio Properties."
    2. Make sure Logitech is listed as the Preferred device for "Sound recording."
If the microphone does not work in Sound Recorder, click here for help in determining the problem with the mic.
While using MSN Messenger it is the messenger program, not the camera software, that negotiates the audio streams between two MSN Messenger Clients. Although we cannot directly support audio issues in MSN Messenger, the following steps have been known to resolve and improve audio issues in MSN Messenger. For further information, please consult the help documents associated with MSN Messenger.
Test Your Networking Router
You can also test to see if your router is causing audio issues by either physically bypassing your router and connecting directly to your cable/DSL modem or by setting up your computer as the DMZ (de-militarized zone). If you are a novice networking user, it is not recommended that you leave your computer in the DMZ state for extended period as that may leave your computer vulnerable to attack. However, you may briefly configure your computer as the DMZ to determine if your network settings are causing the audio issues. For DMZ setup instructions, please consult your router's documentation.
Enable Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) on both Windows XP and Your Router.
If either of the above steps resolves the no audio problem, try the following steps.
  1. Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. To open Add or Remove Programs, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  3. In the Components list, select the Networking Services check box, and then click Details.
  4. Make sure the Universal Plug and Play box is checked.
Notes: If you used a CD to set up Windows, you will be prompted to insert it into your computer.
If your router does not support UPnP or you still get no audio after enabling UPnP on both Windows XP and your router, you must manually open all UDP ports between 5004 and 65535. This is because the audio streams are sent dynamically using that range of ports. Without a dynamic way to open those ports like UPnP, there is no way for MSN Messenger to successfully negotiate the audio stream. Consult your router's documentation for instructions to manually open these required ports.
If you are still experiencing audio issues within MSN Messenger, and you have verified that the microphone is working in Sound Recorder, contact MSN Messenger Support.

This article covers Accoustic Echo Canncellation (AEC) and how it works.
trnsp.gif Answer This article applies to the following products:
QuickCam 10.x and RightSound supported cameras
QuickCam 11.x and RightSound supported cameras
Call Central and RightSound support audio devices
This article applies to the following platforms:
Windows® 2000 Professional
Windows® XP Professional
Windows® XP Home
Windows® Media Center Home
Windows® Vista
Accoustic EchoCancellation (AEC)'s purpose is to prevent sounds from your computer's speakers to be picked up by your microphone. This can be a significant problem with audio or video calling applications where the voices or sounds from other parties of the call is being inadvertently picked up by the microphone and fed back into the call, creating echo and other sound distortions. Without AEC, this echo can detract from the quality of a call and in extreme situations, the echo can degrade the audio experience to the point where the audio is useless.
To prevent this from happening, the AEC component monitors sounds being played by your computer's speakers while monitoring the incoming sound picked up by your computer's microphone. The AEC module takes the outgoing and incoming sound signals and compares them to determine if echo is present. If echo is found, it is subtracted before the audio from the microphone is sent to the requesting application. This will result in the remote party only hearing you speak, without being distracted by hearing their own voice echo back to them.
When enabled, echo is eliminated for the recipient of the audio/video message. For echo free chatting, both parties need to have a RightSound technology enabled web camera that supports the AEC feature.

Built in Microphone doesn't work in AIM, Windows Live Messanger

You would be surprised at how many people don't realize that each application has it's own configuration screen.

It's not the end-users fault - like you said... the instructions could be a BIT more clear.

Deep, garbled, audio on my contact's end

have you tried recording a message to yourself and playing it back. The reason I ask that is to make sure your audio encoding is working well enough at least for you to understand yourself.
Has the sound always been good on her computer, i.e. any reason to suspect her configuration at all? If not, and assuming she is getting good quality video from you, then the problem may well be in your configuration. Have you tried a different messenging program just to see if that might alliviate the issue. I know from a lot of past experience that different messenging programs can have a major effect on audio especially.
Now my last question, are you both using high speed broadband connections??

Audio

This clearly is some kind of device configuration problem..Open control panel->sounds and audio devices->voice Now click on test hardware and tap on your microphone and see if the sound meter is showing changes..then click next and tap again and see if you are able to hear it in your speaker. If you cannot just download the latest device drivers for your sound card and that should fix the problem! Also you can download latest drivers for your webcam here http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SCANNER-Digital-CAMERA-WEBCAM/LOGITECH/Logitech-QuickCam-Communicate-STX.shtml Try both of these and hopefully you will get it working!
