Question about Nintendo DS Lite Console

Nintendo ds, can not erase data message

My son just purchased a used game. When we insert it in the DS it says "can not erase data, turn power off and reinsert the game card." We can not seem to get past this screen and I have tried the game in our other kids's DS's . The game is Super Mario Bros. if that matters at all.
Thanks

Where did you buy this game? Is it from a reliable source? There's been known fake DS games that don't work. And usually the case is the game shows a message "can not access saved data. please turn of power and re-insert game". This is actually my first time with a case where it can't erase the data. Try contacting the previous owner.

I bought a DS game on March, I played with it with no problem for one month but then it began to display the error: "The save data could not be accessed. Pease turn the power off and reinsert the Game...

unfortunately it sounds like a chunk of the flash that the game uses has gone bad. If the game has a warranty- use it. Otherwise, the only solution is to purchase/download another copy

When games are inserted into console they will not play

If you are inserting a DS card, be sure there are no foreign articles inside the slot. Blow into the DS card slot to clear any debris. Also be sure you are inserting the card all the way in until it clicks. I've also found that if you're powering on a game, and you bump, grasp or touch the ds card as the DS is powering on, that can cause it to not read games.

Check the actual DS card itself and carefully look at the exposed contacts on the circuit board. Be sure none of them are scratched, damaged or otherwise. A scratch can damage a contact, thus preventing proper data read.

If anything was spilled onto the DS card, be sure it is thoroughly cleaned with a damp cloth (no cleeaning chemicals!) If you immerse the DS card, or pour liquids on it, that may damage it as well.

Same points hold true for inserting a Gameboy Advance game (if you have a DS or a DS Lite. The DSi and DSiXL do not have Gameboy Advance slots.

If you turn on the DS and nothing happens, try a different DS Card. If it only happens with that one particular game (or games) your DS cards are damaged or need cleaning. If all your games are not playing, there is a problem with your DS. Try your games in a friend's DS just to make sure. You'll probably have to send the unit to Nintendo for repair, or take it to an authorized repair center.

On the phantom hourglass it says... data could not be read. Please turn the power off and reinsert the game card.I did what it said.I even cleaned it.I need help.

WARNING: This will erase all saved game data!

As the game boots up, press "A,B,X,Y,L, and R" all at the same time to erase all saved game data. This resets the game to all defaults and it's like it's a brand new cartridge. Stinks you lose your save data but at least you get to play again.

Saved data could not be read?

This just happened to me. I used a tissue and gently wiped out the slot- then blew out any dust/debris with my breath. Gave a gentle wipe to the pins on the game card as well with a tissue. Restarted a few times and now games are working fine.

"Could not read the data. Turn off the power, and reinsert...."

I have found that in these cases the game is faulty. Especially if other games work fine in your DS. Try returning the game at the retailer you got it from, failing that, I have had success with writing to the publisher of the game (it is a LONG process) but I ended up getting a few free games in the mix as well.

Problem with game

Usually. Has the cartridge been washed, stepped on, thrown, or dropped? That goes for the ds, too.
