Your problem could be caused by a bad felt seal..the drum rotates against this seal. The purpose of the seal is to seal the hot air from going out of the drum and into the room.
Remove the front of the dryer and this should expose the drum and felt seal.

Sounds like the belt is off the idler. This is all I can think of that would bind it like you say.

Tub bearings

The bearing block does wear out on these. Replacing it is not an easy undertaking. You have to remove the top and the front of the dryer. Check the drum seals at this time as you have it all apart it is a good time to replace those also.

Clothes get stuck between dryer and barrel

If your clothes get stuck, marked or torn in your dryer, check these:

Rollers
Rear seal
Front glides
Front seal
Rollers Your dryer may use rollers, or wheels, to support the rear of the clothes drum. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rollers wear out, you need to replace the whole set.

Rear seal Your dryer may have a felt-like seal at the rear of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, clothes can get caught and torn in the space between the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rear seal wears out, you need to replace it.

Front glides Your dryer probably uses nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. When the glides wear out, you need to replace them as a set.

Front seal Many dryers have a felt-like seal at the front of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, the clothes in the dryer may get caught and torn in the space between the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. When the seal wears out, you need to replace it.

Squeaky dryer

The tub rides on a ball in the rear center. The ball sits in a plastic bearing with a metal mount. When the plastic wears down the bearing begins to rub the metal mount. WARNING: procrastination can cause this metal mount to eat into the ball and litterally cut it off causing the drum to fall into the heating element. To repair simply pop the top using a putty knife, remove the front and take the idler loose from a small hatch in the rear. Use the belt to help you get the drum out the front. NOTE. the kit comes with everything needed to make the repairs. If you are frugal the bearing it sold seperately. cd5464b.jpg

Dryer tumbler barrel loose

Depending on what brand a model. This sounds as though the guide roller or guide roller shaft are bad and are in need of replacement. It could also be the tub glides are bad. If you will give me the brand and model number I can probably tell how to check this and repair.
