Question about Maytag Performa PAV2200

1 Answer

The machine does not spin properly. The tub

The machine does not spin properly. The tub wobbles drastically no matter how you balance the clothing load. When spinning the tub bangs the sides of the machine and the washer "walks 4 to 5 feet. You have to continually monitor the machine so it does pull the drain hose out of our utility sink during it's "walks". When we bought this unit, I thought one of the selling points was that this unit would "self balance".

machine wobbles badly hitting the sides of the tub regardless of how many times i have tried leveling the machine

My Maytag Performa is always taking my laundry for "walks" during the spin cycle. We have levelled it over and over but it still spins out of control...it seems to MAKE the loads off balance. It wobbled so badly that it actually bent one of the feet to a 90 degree angle and it is LOUD!! I spend more time trying to balance my loads than I do sorting the laundry. My loads seem to be soaking after the spin cycle more and more lately and I'm ready to throw it in the dump and buy a new washer - DEFINITELY NOT A MAYTAG!! I purchased it as it was supposed to be a large capacity washing machine but in order to stop the "walking", I can't put more than a half load in it - complete waste of time and money!

same thing, my wife spends more time adjusting the load because it starts walking and making these loud banging noises. Pain in the neck. This seems to be a Maytag Problem

It sounds like the unit is not sitting on level ground sometimes there are feet that can be adjusted to raise and lower the unit on the front left and right side go to a department store and by a level for a couple of dollars and put it on the top exterior of the unit and check it left to right and front to back

The tub continues to go off balance in spin cycle. Starts out smooth then starts to wobble terribly til the UL shows and shuts down. Support rods are good

There is a little device inside the washer that allows the agitator to spin independent of the drum. If this gets stuck, the washer will try to spin the whole drum instead of just the agitator. This will cause the washer to think the load is too large or out of balance, causing the error code. On some Whirlpools this device is just a washer.

Tub is off balance

The tub is out of balance. When it starts hitting the sides, stop the washer and move your clothes around inside the tub to balance the tub. Now start it to spin again. This should stop the tub from hitting the sides.

My washer makes a terrible sound when spin drying clothes, as it is not properly balanced and wobbles a lot

Unless you a very attached to this machine i suggest you buy a new washer. This has to do with either the tub main bearing or the transmission. Either one of these repairs is going to cost around $400 to $550 to repair. unless you choose to do it yourself. it is a fairly difficult repair. Hope this helps.

Frigidaire washing machine top load. troubleshoot

There are levelers at the corners of the unit for levelng - tubs have springs attached to them for righting the tub while working (spinning, agitating) - also if the clothes are evenly distrbuted in tub it will wobble badly during operation.

Leaking is usually from the drain pump especially from the point whwere the hose is attached to the pump

Off balance spin cylce

The base of the tub assembly rests on a white plastic ring called a 'snubber'. If any type of lubricant gets in this area, the tub will wobble excessively. The major cause for this issue is a failed transmission where oil has leaked out and into the snubber. The transmission may be warranted for 10 years. Check your owners manual. A good method to check for oil is to tilt the machine back and remove the plastic cover in the center of the pulley, if it contains oil, the transmission is leaking also look at the inside cabinet wall for signs of oil splatter.

Spin

Does this happen with every load? I've had this happen occasionally but it was caused by one or two heavier when wet pieces of clothing that caused the tub to get off center and it would wobble out of control. By just rearranging the wet clothes to balance the tub it stopped wobbling. But only after making sure that the heaviest objects were on opposite sides if the tub.
