Question about Acer D-Link 2.4GHz Wireless Router 802.11b (DLINKROUTER)

My Acer Aspire 5100 running on Vista will not connect to the internet. This went bad after a support session Norton trying to re-install Norton 360. They ran me through numerous steps, steps I can't remember, and I think something got turned off. I have a stron signal and daughter's laptop connects just fine.

Disable the norton and pc or laptop firewall disable it then try to connect then you connect it then you on your norton and the firewall ok only onces time you have to disable

Installed norton 360 v4 as an upgrade and paid won't staart


Download (as in Save, not Run) the Norton Unistaller

and follow the instructions with some additional steps:
Step 2.1 once you have the Uninstaller, the new installer and the key on your pc disconnect it from the internet.
Step 2.2 run the Uninstaller and accept everything it does.
Step 2.3 do yet another reboot and run a sistem cleaner like CCleaner and the Disk Defragmenter 
Now do the Step 3 run the installer.

Symantec Client Firewall is blocking my Internet connection


I would recommend disabling the Norton firewall portion of the software, keep it's antivirus side if you wish, and use Windows Firewall for best compatibility.

Internet Explorer wont connect to the internet


Try putting in https://www.microsoft.com


Or www.filehippo.com where you can download a copy of the latest IE to re-install it is case you have a corupted file in the old installation

Finally were you using Zone Labs as a Firewall if so then you may still have their True Vector Monitor running in the background , you need to go into "Search" put in True Vector and delete any files it finds with that name)

Ps

You really wasted your money on Norton , it slows the machine down big style and is a pain

NOD32 Anti Virus is a much better product and a combination of a router with its built in Firewall and the standard Windows Firewall give you as much protection

Windows vista installed twice


Um, this may sound silly, but you wouldn't believe how many people simply have the volume turned off in the volume properties. I would then check speaker connections, check that they are still recognized in the device manager, and if all appears well, it may be just a sound card that just up and bit the dust.

No Internet Connection after Installing Norton 360


I had same problem. I went to Start\All Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore. I picked date before which Norton 360 was installed. It got my internet connection back. I'm not even going to try Norton anymore. Time better spent trying to get my money back.

Hello, It sounds to me like there is a conflict between the Kaskersky and Vista. I'd un-install and use Avast but AVG is a Good Anti-virus also. Vista is sometimes a nightmare. I have problems with certain flash-drives which will not work in Vista. They freeze up the computer. It's Vista. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Cannot get through internet via ethernet, I Appreciate your help.


You didn't state what kind of net connection you are using, dial-up, cable, sattelite.
If, for instance, you have cable, is the modem connected directly to one computer, or several, via router and ifso on the router is it "wireless" or cable connected?

If you are using anything OTHER THAN dial-up, I recommend, that you unplug the router AND modem, look for "resets" on both, sometimes the reset will look like a small resessed pin that must be pushed on with a pen or toothpick.(hold down for 30 seconds) Leave them unplugged...I would advise 5 minutes, then reconnect cables and power supplys and try again.

If none of this works and you have had electrical storms,(and sometimes wind damages cable if pole mounted) you may have surge-damaged routers/ and or modems. I usually have to reset mine after every lighting storm, and had to replace a damaged router twice. Sadly on another note, I would not recommend vista to anyone, I would however recommend XP media center for computers that have specs for it.
