I had the same problem and checked at the Apple store and was told to rub the scrolling ball with a alcohol prep pad. works wonderful. May have to repeat as needed.

Hi Laury,

If its a ball mouse try unscrewing the disc on the underneath, take out the ball and clean the wheels it rubs against. Then pit it back together and it should be ok.

If it's a lser mouse then it's probably broken so buy another

cheers HPC

My scroll wheel skips, jumps, scrolls backward or on its own. Can I fix it?

Take the roller ball out of the bottom of your mouse if it's the older style and clean the dirt and dust of the roller wheels with a q tip and alcohol. If it is an optical mouse try putting a piece of white paper under it when you use it this may help. If not it is time for a new one.

My Microsoft Intellimouse Trackball rolls but the cursor doesn't

the circular disk that surrounds the trackball and has a little raised part can be turned to left - take it off and ball will fall out- inside are 2 tiny black rubber wheels one to left and one south of that- clean with alcohol on a cloth 9 not soaked) - I scrap them with my nail going across & you'll see gunk come off. Slso turn it upside down & tap it so all dirt inside falls out. wipe all around inside with cloth. Then clean the circle that holds ball. It has to have no dirt on inside area. Clean & dry ball- put back together and make sure to turn the circlular disc till it points to the dot on top. If that gets turned just a little off center it will cause ball to go all over. I've had mine for years & won't part with it. Can't stand chasing a regular mouse around the desk.

Did you take the ball out and clean it and everything it touchs internally?? Dust tends to build up in it and makes it go where you dont want.

Dear Stephenson,

Please check the mouse's ball properly, and check for a to z, i mean, from top to bottom. Further, i am sure that it might got damage, please check the cursor's moment, wireline from mouse to cpu, ball rotation etc. you will get a solution, if you set right the ball, wire line, etc.

Thank you for contacting fixya team.

Warm regards.

Have you changed the batteries recently?

Normal 0 Normal 0 If the mouse doesn't have a little door to open on the bottom, then try this. Just behind the Left and Right keys where your hand rests, apply firm pressure down on the cover and slide to the rear. Some mouse manufactures have used this type of access to replace the batteries.

If it’s a wireless GE mouse turn it on by pushing the button on the bottom and hold till the red light comes on. Assuming the computer is running, press the Blue light on the Receiver and then, press the button on the bottom of the mouse and it should start tracking on the monitor.
Hope this helps. Bud

TrackMan Wheel Trackball Spring - where does it go.

it's not really a spring -- it's just a twisted piece of wire. actually, it's what makes your little scroll wheel click when you turn it. place the scrool wheel in the little plastic bracket that holds it with the longest piece of axel (hollow side of wheel) in. then TURN THE BRACKET OVER. the wire goes on the BOTTOM, which is quite counterintuitive. you'll see how it goes -- the smallest end of the wire goes INSIDE the scroll wheel and the kinda squared end of the wire goes into a little hole in the bracket. you'll understand when you look closely at it. once the wire is installed, hold it in place when you turn the bracket/ball/wire assembly over. fit the legs on the bracket into the groves on the base of the trackball -- that's the side where the ball sits and the circuit board is. make sure the scroll wheel passes through the trackball cover when putting it all back together. VOILA! problem solved.

Mighty Mouse won't scroll down

I have had the same problem on occasion.  I found that if I turn the mouse over and tickle it...  It works!  Only kidding...
Turn the mouse over, push down hard so the ball is depressed, and move it vigorously in all directions.  That usually dislodges whatever is trapped inside.
