1 Answer

We're trying to load the software disc for the 5620 but when we put in the imac it asks a couple of questions, says it is loading and then does nothing. Any thoughts?

I would go to the HP site and get the latest drivers for it. Try those and see if it corrects your problem.

TRYING TO INSTALL MAC OS VIA TARGET DISC MODER

The issue you are having is one in Intel, the other is G3.
This is how to do it. 1. put the cd/dvd into the laptop and restart the laptop in Target mode.
2. connect the laptop to the iMac with a Firewire cable.
3. Start the imac and immediatle hold down the alt/option key.
4. after a moment you will be offered a choice of start-up discs - one of which will be the CD/dvd in the laptop.
5. Start from the CD and then when asked, select the iMac drive as the destination. This ensures that the imac loads the correct version of the OS for its processor. Should work without a hitch.

I own the TEAC FD-05PUB. I am using it with a intel imac software version 10.6.6 I have been unable to get my drive to load any floppy disc. I would appreciate your assistance. Thank you, Mark

Stupid question: are you trying to use a PC floppy drive to read PC floppy disks on a Mac? I don't think this kind of operation would have a positive outcome....

Blueberry iMac with slot-loading CD rom drive will

It would be very difficult to open up the imac to retrieve the disc as the CD drive is totally enclosed and would probably result in it not be functional after removing the disk. Have a look at the following article on the apple website
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3007?viewlocale=en_US as it does indicate that the slot loading imac does have a hole for paperclip ejection. You could also try opening up disk utility and and clicking on the icon of your disk under the left hand column then go up to eject button and click eject. Hope this helps.

A dvd is stuck in the drive. It resists all attempts at removal including the ''eject cd'' command in Open Firmware. Can I manually remove it?

The iMac (Slot loading) computer's disc eject mechanism is electrical instead of mechanical. To eject a CD-ROM disc at startup that contains system software, press the mouse button until the computer ejects the disc. If the disc does not contain system software, wait for the iMac to start up and drag the disc icon to the Trash.

If either of these steps fails to eject the disc, push the drive's manual eject button with a small, blunt object like a paper clip. This button is located to the right of the CD/DVD slot as shown in Figure 1. The computer must be turned on to eject a disc in this manner.

ht3007_1.gifFigure 1 Manual eject button

Once the disc is ejected, it extends just beyond its center hole so you can remove it from the drive. If the disc fails to eject, while holding in the paper clip, use another CD to gently push against the inserted CD. This gentle pressure may help to release the inserted CD.

Important: After ejecting the disc with the manual eject button, you must restart the iMac in order for the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive to work.

Emac model number A1002

It could be a hard drive problem or it could just be a software issue. Given the model, it could be running System 9 or X or both. If it is 9 it just may need to be blessed. The disc you are trying to load sounds model specific as opposed to Apple's retail discs which will load on any of their models capable of running that particular operating system. Whether it is worth fixing is really a judgement call, if you have use of a 2nd machine a hard drive / install disc can be had for cheap enough, as far as resell value, I would say no. Due to the limited information you have on the history of the machine I would suggest following these links to try and determine if it is indeed hardware or software:

Imac question

Try turning it on with the shift key down. This gives a safe boot. If it's going to turn on at all, it will turn on then. Also, boot it with Disc Warrior or Tech Tools and run some tests to see what is going on. I hope you find all is well, and that the repairs are just minor. Good luck.

Playing PS2 on apple iMac

if the iMac is one of the computers with the slot-load drive (you don't load the disc into a tray before it goes into the computer), then placing a disc smaller than a regular CD/DVD will damage the CD drive and will be very hard to remove.

you could buy an external CD/DVD drive and then use smaller discs with the iMac.

Trying to install from disc. It asked for domain. I don't even know what that is .

Try reinstalling the software and make sure all the cables are connected correctly. More detailed information about what it is doing and what it is not would be helpful. The drivers may not have loaded from the install disc so try uninstalling and reinstalling the software.
