It seemed as if you were getting the symptoms of the "blinking red light of doom" but luckily you didn't.And VERY VERY good thinking on the back up (i never thought of it and i almost lost all my data).
I hope your new hdd runs a 5400rpm and NOT 7200rpm.
1. A 7200rpm hdd will make system over-heat.
2. System run hotter (and in most cases of red light of doom) are HIGH graphics games such as MW2 & UNCHARTED 2.
3. Systems will last longer and cooler with an external fan that runs off its on power from a power outlet(not run off the power of the ps3!!!!)
I hope I have helped and please feel free to ask any questions GOOO UNCHARTED 2!!
There is a slide setting thing on your av cord that gives you the option of using TV or HDTV (look near the end of the cord that slides into the XBOX 360), You will see two choices for settings on the cord "TV" or "HDTV".
Just make sure that you have it on the correct setting. I had the smae problem. My XBOX 360 is not hooked up to HDTV, so for me it should stay on TV. But somehow when I took out the cord I accidently slide it to HDTV.
I simply slide it back to the "TV" Setting and in about 30 seconds it worked perfectly.
This is what used to happen to me on my ps3 slim 160 GB when I put the disc in the screen goes black and int he top left corner I have a flashing disc, i updated the system to FW 4.00 and now the game works fine, i was previously running FW 3.73.
Well my system just recently died while I was playing GTA and yeah now my game is stuck as well cause when I turn the system on it stays on for like 3 seconds before turning off and blinks the red light at me, I am not sure if there is a way to get the game out maybe if you open up the PS3 but make sure you don't do that if you still have warranty on the system or it will be void. I am sending my PS3 into Sony and the guy said just make a note that the game is stuck in the system and they will take care of it and fix my system.
