There is an automatic breaker that turns of roller brush when there is a blockage to keep it from burning out. You probably just have to restart the roller brush by hitting the gray button next to the red power button on your vacuum .. most people never notice that button until this happens.

No suction from my kirby sentria

I just took a stiff piece of coax cable, and took the bag off where it attaches to the main unit, and took the head off ( the part with the brush roll in it) AMD cleaned every thing really well, turning the spindle for the fan while " snaking" it and pulled out a baby sock! Ta-Da! Works like New.

My Oreck XL has quit sucking. The brush turns but

Same problem here with XL9100. Bag would not expand implying no suction. Motor ran and brushes turned. Easy disassembly using common tools found that a plastic bag had been sucked up and caused a blockage prior to the impeller. Cleaned up, reassembled, and everything worked fine after that.

The vacuum is not sucking up material. Rather it

Either the bag is full, or the belt is broken that drives the brush on the underneath side of wand.

I tried the electrical-tape-around-the-wooden-spindle technique. After a minute or so, it's back to functioning normally.

Kirby Ultimate G will not suck with main brush head attachment

You may need a new belt, it may have stretched enough so it isn't turning the brush roll anymore.

My dirt devil vacuum won't suck up anything and its brand new!!

Take the vac bag off and turn on the vac , it should blow air out, if not unclogg the hose where the bag connects, also when you check the roller and belt, unclog the flex hose(located inside base near roller assembly) that sucks up the dirt. As long as the motor works fine the rest is just maint.
