Question about IBM ThinkPad R51 Notebook
I have a 2003 or 2004 R51 Thinkpad. My monitor has started cutting out where I can see the screen for a couple seconds and then black. The power is still on and I can kind of see the activity on the screen, but it's pretty much blacked out. It's like my screen is burned out or something. Is there anything I can do? Can I get a replacement "bulb" for lack of a better word? Thanks, Morgan
To answer your question Morgan, yes you can get a new LCD display for your laptop! Typically people sell the entire assembly which is the screen, backlight, display cable. It then fits into the thin plastic casing around your current screen. They are actually pretty easy to replace the problem is you oftentimes have to remove the computers keyboard, and other pieces of plastic on the top that might be in the way. Also there are usually anchoring screws on the bottom that have to be removed as well. There should be one little teeny tiny cable you have to pull out that connects to the mainboard, and then reconnect with the new display. Try this website if you want to order a new one their price is only $120 (which is great for a new LCD screen).
