Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer

1 Answer

While washing a blanket last night the last spin and rinse cycle failed to happen and the water would not pump out. The motor made a noise I would not say a grinding noise but it was rough. There was an eletrical smell and the smell was in the clothes also. Would I be better off to go buy a new washer then to fix this one?

I have exactly the same problem right now and am trying to diagnose it. The door lock light is on and the door is locked. I replaced the door lock wax motor and drive transistor several years ago and added an inline fuse. That seems to be working correctly.
I replaced the motor and motor control card with the upgraded motor two years ago and last year replaced the bearings!
I have too much time invested to junk it now.
I was going to check the out-of-balance switch circuit to see if it was open-circuit.
Anyone know where I can find a control timing diagram to determine the proper timing sequence and interlocks?
Any suggestions on cause of no high speed spin?
    Thanks

This was not my problem. The seal apparently split and it caused water to get to the bearing. The service call was 109 buck and to fix the washer was going to be appx. 500 bucks. So I bought a new washer. Apparently the last Neptunes made has this problem so Neptune owners that bought their washer in 2002 or 2003 BEWARE!!

The out of balance circuit only gets checked after 90 rpms. So if your balance circuit is open here is what you will notice... In spin cycle the machine will start the ramp up, hit 90 rpm, stop, tumble, attempt to ramp up again and repeat this pattern and not get up to full spin speed.

There should be an electrical diagram in the console area so you can see the inertia switches wiring. On the earlier machines the wires are blue in color.

The first user mentioned that the water is not pumping out? the pump could be clogged and need taken apart and cleaned. A dime can stop the pump.

Oko 72630. Why is it stuck on rinse cycle?

Could be several reasons:
- Selected the "Night cycle" program (means standing with the drum full of water, reason: too much noise in the spin cycle)
- Set to the "Rinse hold" (means standing with the drum full of water, reason: wrinkles on the clothes)

According to your description I think that this is not a failure otherwise error E20 will be appears on display.

Once the washing programme has come to an end, END illuminates on the programme progress display.
If RINSE HOLD was selected, the display beside the START/ PAUSE button flashes.
1. After a rinse hold, the water must first be pumped out:
- Either press the START/PAUSE button (the water is pumped out and the washing is spun according to the completed programme;
After the START/PAUSE button is pressed again, the spin speed can still also be changed during spinning), or
- Turn the programme selector to PUMP OUT and press the START/PAUSE button (the water is pumped out without spinning),or
- Turn the programme selector to SPIN or SHORT SPIN and press theSTART/PAUSE button (the water is pumped out and the washing is spun or gently spun).
At the end of this programme step, the END indicator will illuminate.
2. Open the door.
As soon as the DOOR indicator lights up green, the door can be opened.

Good Day,
Your washing machine is fully automatic?
the washing cycle is normal?
if yes do the same maybe it will help you.
for the fully automatic washing machine mostly have drain pump, please check the filter of your drain pump, how? remove the cup of your drain pump like a ordinary cup, screw it clock wise or counter clock wise.
Remove drain pump filter and clean it, some hair pins, cotton buds or coins or any small item that coz of clog up.
if your washing machine dont have drain pump ,but fully automatic check the drain motor if running or not? how? open the back cover for top loader washing machine only, select spin cycle and press start to see the drain motor running? the drain motor is like a small box with small wire to pull the lever of the drain to remove water inside, if the motor running or pull the lever of the water pipe but water still inside the washing machine, remove the drain cup or cover and clean it or check if have coin or cloth inside that coz of clog or water stuck,
if the drain pump or drain motor is weak this is will cause and long time draining or totally not running the drain pump or drain motor and its cause of totally stop the cycle of washing machine in rinse time or spin time, because all fully automatic washing machine, after washing cycle the drain pump or drain motor must be on, to remove water before start the next cycle. rinse or spin cycle.

Not pumping out water on rinse cycle

i suspect the main board providing the pump is not jammed and not burnt out . if you have a jammed or a burnt out pump it can cause the main board to fail and replacing the pump will not fix the problem. Try a new board

Machine runs wash cycle but fails to drain and spin. When door unlocks I remove and replace wet washing then switch on rinse and spin cycle. This seems to work but is no long term answer.

Hi, The washer will fail to spin if there is too much water in the machine, check the filter on the machine is not clogged or blocked if it's not then the pump could be suspect, normally you can hear it running on the spin cycle. it could also be the motor brushes are worn.

if its none of the above I would suggest that it maybe the pressure switch or pressure switch tube blocked other than that the last resort is the programmer or motor control panel.

Hope this helps.

Whrilpool modle #lsq9544kq0 washer works in

Humming could mean a stalled motor. These machines also have a coupling between motor and gearbox which can fail. However, the pump is attached to the motor, so if it's not pumping it probably means the motor isn't spinning. Check motor and/or gearbox.....Nomess

Kenmore 80's series top loader only works on wash and rinse cycle

This is a problem with the pump being stuck so the motor cant turn the whole thing. Turn the washer on its side, underneath you can acces the pump, which is connected to the motor by two long clips. remove the pump and take out the colg that caused it to get stuck.

In the back of your washer their should be a
diagnostic
manual behind the top cover. this manual will show you how to test the motor.
if the motor does not work. your motor control board is faulty. if you look closly at the board , you will see a burnt componet, that means you will need a upgraded board and unfortunely you will need in new motor to go with it.
it cost me around $230. has been working for 2 years with no other problems.
I found the parts on line. if you need help to find it , let me know, and when i get back home next week i will send it to you.
Good luck.
