Hello,
I have an RCA vr612hf that's about 9 months old and has been played
very little. This afternoon while watching a movie some video noise
began to appear. By the end of the second film, it became unwatchable.
Tracking has no effect nor does swapping cables or running it through
the second TV. I ran a dry head cleaner through it (once) but still no
improvement. It's still under partial warranty (parts). Is there
anything else that I can try before taking it to the shop?
ThanxPat

take several attempts. Also try scanning the tape forward and back.
That might just do the trick. If it weren't under warranty I'd just
take some head cleaning swabs and alcohol to it.

dirty heads, window cleaner on a q-tip, touching, not rubbing the tip
onto each head two or three times after loading the tip with cleaner.
Then clean normally. If you don't have a test jig, hand spin the
cylinder several times to get the cleaner out. It does not dry quickly,
so a little bit makes things worse.
This is my last resort and works about half the time. It has fixed cola
to smeared roaches (although roach shells normally break the heads).

sure if the heads are just dirty after using it (did it work or not?) and
more importantly, they are abrasive. They are no friend to the video heads
on your machine. Get it cleaned professionally would be the best advice.

works, I would check it first to see if you can get it serviced under
warranty. If not, it probably just needs a good cleaning. Cleaning will
take care of it 9 out of 10 times. Still, could have a problem somewhere in
the head amp circuit on through the video circuit, but I doubt that.
Good luck,
Kurt
