Question about Timers

1 Answer

My daughter has a Baxi Combo 105e fitted with an optional timer. I believe that the timer is possibly a Grasslin although it has no name on it. Although the clock goes round, the Central Heating doesn't come on. Does anyone know if the peg positions around the outside should be ''In'' or ''Out'' for the heating to come on? Alternatively does anyone know where I can get a manual?

Instructions for programming stanley 31215

Copy following link to identify timer and download possible manual:

Timer max uses old Grasslin-design timer buttons, and the same configuration is still used on modern Tork and Grasslin timers... and the programming is probably same/ similar.

I am wanting to wire a Baxi 105E boiler to a Danfoss 102 mechanical timer. The boiler has 5 wires = red, blue, earth, black and yellow. The Timer has six terminals = 1 DHW, 2 HTG, 3 COM, I (earth), 5...

1) Contact baxi:
http://www.baxi.co.uk/contact.htm

2) Which boiler wires? I don't know. Page 24 manual.
Manual says to disconnect link between terminals 1 and 2, and instert timer in-line.
http://www.acwilgar.co.uk/Boiler-Manual-PDF/Baxi/Combi%20instant%2080E%20&%20105E.pdf

2) I can tell you about the timer wiring.
Timer is 230Volts
Not sure if you have British Hot-Neutral 230Volt, or Hot-Hot 230Volt.
Wiring is same 2 wires, but words to describe are different.
Let's say you have Hot-Neutral 230V
Connect Hot to L6
Connect Neutral to N5
This will power the timer so it runs and keeps time.
You can get Hot-Neutral wires from Hot-Neutral that arrive to power the boiler.

Now the timer terminals are separate.
E terminal is Earth or ground.
The Common is Hot wire.
The timer then turns on-off and switches back and forth between DHW and HTG.
HTG is heating
DHW is defrost.
Timer has 2 sets contacts.

When timer activates first set of contacts, then DHW defrost terminal receives power from Hot wire on Com terminal. At this time, all power is cut to HTG heating terminal.

When the defrost cycle ends, then the heating circuit receives power, and then the timer has programming that opens and closes a second set of contacts going to HTG heating terminal.

Which wires from boiler connect to each terminal, I am not sure.

Need manual for timer dtsx-240-hc

More information is needed.
Review options below:

1) Add a comment and describe timer in detail for best possible answer.

2) DTSX timer appears to be older-style GE/Grasslin or Intermatic/Grasslin/Frost King defrost timer with selectable voltage and F 3 1 2 4 N X wiring terminals.
Open following links to identify timer and download possible manual
http://waterheatertimer.org/Intermatic-timers-and-manuals.html#defrost

Additional resources explaining more about defrost timer operation:

3) Tork makes DTS series timers with 1, 2 and 4-channels:
Each channel can be programmed separately to control different loads with different on-off schedules.
Timer clock is 120Volts, but dry switch terminals can be wired to control any voltage load.
