If you can solder, try resoldering the pins on the convergence ICs. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. Please note that there are potentally dangerous hogh voltages present inside hte set even when unplugged.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Hi,
The problem is your convergence circuit board gone bad. This is commonly caused by shorted/open IC on that board. First try to spot if there is a bad solder joints and resolder it. If nothing replaced the convergence IC. Also check the resistors around.
Hope it may help you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Blue outlines on screen. not a screen burn or convergence problem

I am not familiar with that particular model but most are similar.
It may need the blue focus adjusted. Most tv's have some type of automatic focus. If the blue is out of focus it can "bloom" beyond the red and green. There should be a focus block with 6 adjustments (2 rows of 3) behind the speaker cover. I wouldn't mess with the one labeled screen or block. Adjust very carefully. They are usually in the order Red-Green-Blue with the focus on the bottom row.

Picture looks like its 3D what is the problem

The D52W20 had an issue with solder joints around the flyback. When you take the back off the flyback is on the very left closes to the back of the tv and has a large red wire coming out of it. Looking from the top down you will see three small orange rectangles in a row. These are fuses and one of them is going to be opened.

All you have to do is resolder the pins on the flyback and replace the fuse and you should regain convergence.

Text/images overlap each other in 3 colors, 3D distorted picture

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

This is a common problem on older RCA projection tvs. There is a small power supply that powers the convergence circuit and that is what usually fails causing this issue. The model # will help you get the correct part. If you open the back of the set, it is the power board mounted above the convergence board (above the board with row after row of heatsinks). There will be a red and black wire that drops down to the convergence amp.

CONVERGENCE PROBLEM

Yes sir anytime you move a projection set ,theres a chance that the convergence could go out of alighnment as it dosent take much. First off your gonna need a cross hatch generator and a service manual and a good kno how on convergence alighnment as when you adjust some controls you need to counter it withanother completely differant alighnment control> so in some cases to get a section or a linearity correction your gonna spend some time. I myself remeber one set I spend 5 hours on after a customer tryed to adjust the confergence them selfs. Not only did it cost a bundle to realighn the gentleman need to go to the hospital as i results of touching a spot on the chassis that he shouldnt have and gave him a shock that threw him across the room. My advice, unless you have convergence experience is to invest in a service person to come out to your home and adjust it for you. I would try first an authorized repair center as they should have all the tools and secrits to the convergence in that set. And Please without electronic experience, even an unplugged set can harm ya. Good luck Try the # and the link 800) 252-5722 or proinfo@jvc.com

Distorted Color and geometry of Picture

I've posted this solution several times but here goes. Try setting up the convergence through the menu by accessing the convergence setup menu. If this fails to work you have a bad digital convergence box and need a tech to replace it. About $60 to $100 fix.
