If it the Dremel Versatip then it isnt wired as it is run by gas. I had the same problem - turned out the pezoignition system had failed. Replaced under warranty. No questions.

Make sure the wires inside the wall plug are all secure, aswell as the ones going to the element inside the iron. If everything looks okay it might be the thermostat, which senses when the iron is too hot, and switches it off and on keeping the heat regulated. This component is replaceable, but you'll need to get one from the dealers. Hope that helps.

Although I had only used my Dremel versatip once I am told it may not be holding the solder due to oxidization, how can I clean the tip of the iron

Clean it with some fine sandpaper and then dip it in flux. Then apply some solder to the tip again and it should b good to go.

Weller Pyropen WPA2 extinguishes itself after a few minutes.

Gas (condensation really) may be freezing and constricting flow. Try warming the tip a bit with a hair dryer see if it goes longer.

WILL TURN OVER BUT WONT CRANK UP ,NEVER HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM

a common problem with accords 1994-1997 accords that crank but will not start is the main fuel injection relay for some reason over time the soldering points inside begin to crack , and they lose contact It's located high up in the dash right above the gas pedal it will say main fuel relay on it. If you have a soldering iron you can fix yourself by re soldering all the solder points inside its pretty easy to do, just go over all solder point, or you can buy a new one around (50.00) bucks, i hope this helps alot of accord owners, good luck.

Got a question for the community, i am looking at buying a sodering iron, for working on cb radios and i have found one that seems to fit the bill and my pocket book, it is a 40watt pencil tip sodder

40 Watts is pretty powerful and will do what you need. However if it doesn't have any temperature control it may be too powerful. I use a 25 Watt electric soldering iron and it does everything I ever wanted in electronics. The danger of using an iron that is too hot is that it could heat components and solder beside where you want the heat.

If it's a gas operated soldering iron it's probably ok since ratings on gas irons are only estimates. Gas soldering irons are handy for working away from mains power, like in your car, however many of them tend to work great when new but after a few months they start to run out of gas very quickly probably possibly because they develop a leak. If you're only buying one I'd say get an electric 25 Watt one.

Hi i have an old weller soldering iron and it wont light up, do i have to have the 2 slide controls in a certain position

A soldering iron is composed of a heated metal tip and an insulated handle. Heating is often achieved electrically, by passing an electric current (supplied through an electrical cord or battery cables) through the resistive material of a heating element. Another heating method includes combustion of a suitable gas, which can either be delivered through a tank mounted on the iron (flameless), or through an external flame.

My Dremel Versatip wont melt the solder - it gets hot, as I touched it to a piece of paper and it burned through, but why wont the solder melt?

Christina, It's probably dirty, and dirt is lousy for transferring the heat from the tip to the solder. With the iron hot, wipe it on a wet rag. This should immediately remove the black crud and make the tip shiny. Keep a wet rag handy to do this often if you are soldering for more than a couple of minutes. If the crud is too bad, you can use a bit of soldering flux on the tip, then the wet rag. If that doesn't work, you can file the tip (easiest when it's cool) until you have copper showing all around the tip. Please vote if you found this helpful. Good luck, Al K

Bought mini butane soldering iron today filled with butane and used it. It was getting low so i put more butane in it and now i can light it. please help

When you fill the soldering iron with butane you must have it turned so the butane can is held upside down. Liquid butane must be able to flow into the iron. It's most likely that you held it upright and even though gas butane would have flowed in it would not be enough to light it. Only fill it outdoors.

Iron wont turn on

Probably a broken or burnt wire, you need to open the iron and tie or solder the wires back together, it'll be functional again. Good luck

Iron is not heating up hot enough stained glass soldering iron:

hi friend,
check this out
Consider the wattage of the soldering iron. A good soldering iron will have wattage of 80 to 150. A wattage of lower than 80 is not ideal for stained glass. You need a soldering iron that will melt the solder fast enough for your project. Consider the type of temperature control you want. Some irons will have a temperature control built in the tip. When the temperature drops, it will turn on and when the temperature is reached, it will turn off. Other soldering irons have a built-in rheostat. You control the temperature by turning the dial up or down. A separate rheostat can be purchased to plug your soldiering iron into. Rheostats are highly recommended. This lets you match your temperature to your soldering style and allow you to do decorative effects.
  • Step 2 Consider the heating element. There are two types of elements, ceramic or wire-wrapped. Ceramic core irons maintain heat more efficiently than wound wire heaters. In a ceramic core, the heater core extends into the tip for faster heat transfer. This will keep the tip hot for a longer period so you can work quickly and faster. Ceramic irons maintain their temperature longer and heat up within 30 to 60 seconds.
  • Step 3 Consider the weight of the soldering iron. You want a soldering iron that is lightweight and balanced. You will have less fatigue when using a lightweight soldering iron at long stretches of time. Check to see if it fits your hand comfortably. Check to see if it has a good rubber cushion for your hand.
  • Step 4 Check for the ease of changing tips on your soldering iron. When soldering stained glass, you want to match your tip to the technique you want to use. There are a variety of tips on the market for soldering irons, and you want to be able to change them easily.
  • Step 5 Check the soldering iron to see if it has a heavy-duty cord and a three-prong plug. You want a grounded three-prong plug to prevent the possibility of shock.
  • hope this helps u
