Amana ARB2217CSR freezer not working right

The freezer had a build up of frsot/ice on the read of the compartment and frozen articles were obviously warming up although ice was OK? I suspect compressor failure on this six year old unit.

You have defrost control parts failure.
Either defrost timer, defrost thermostat or defrost heater.

Lite bulb in freezer not working, put a new bulb in still not working

Unplug it.

There is usually a switch that gets frozen in the closed (door) position.

Try looking in the freezer, front and center, ceiling area.

If the switch moves easily, then it could be the socket.

If it is iced up, wipe it with a warm wet cloth in the same direction that the door opens and closes to get it to spring back.

Plug it back in.

If that doesn't help post a model # and I'll continue the walk through.

Freezer vents full of frost.around every two months. Top refrigerator warm up. I resolve by removing all frost and ice from the freezer vents to clear cold path and get it to work. Possible problems...

First try melting the ice with hair dryer. See drain tube going to pan under frig? It can get clogged/frozen with ice. I cleaned mine with very warm water shot out of a water pik. Or u can hair dryer it, then pour warm water on the little pan that holds the drain tube. Be sure that tube is clear for draining.Otherwise, more ice at vents.

Amana refrigerator, bottom freezer. Back keeps icing up. I have unplugged and thawed it twice, within 2 weeks it is frozen again and freezer warm

This is a defrost problem most likely caused by a defective defrost thermostat. It is located in the freezer compartment behind back wall on top right hand side of coils and usually has a brown and an orange wire connecting to it. It should have continuity when checking with a volt/ohm meter when it is frozen and read open when it is warm.
I have seen many of the newer electronic temperature model bottom mounts with defective control boards as well that cause the fridge to skip the defrost cycle.
Good luck!

Youu most likely have a defective defrost thermostat in this model. It is located behind the cover in the freezer compartment and is a small round device with two wires attatched to it. It is attatched to the freezer coils on the top right hand side. It ususally has an orange and a brown wire connected to it.
Part number is 12001937 and should cost about 23.00. This part should read "closed" on a continuity check when it is frozen, and opens when it is warmed above about 55 degrees.
The idea behind this part is to shut off the heater during defrost should it get too warm in the evaporator area, however when they fail it does not allow the heater to come on.

Ice build up in freezer

Defrost system failure.

Defrost timer, heater, therma disk, any one could be bad.

You could manually defrost and this would get the Ref back to working for a couple of days before it iced up again. Remember there is a lot of ice build up on the cooling coils in the freezer that you can't see so, a little extra time with a hair dryer is needed to do a complete manual defrost.

Amana BX22A2W - freezer works, fridge not cooling

Same problem here with an Amana refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom. I removed the back panels and vacuumed dust and cat hair out. The back panel in the freezer was frosted over with ice on the bottom. I removed the shelves and food and used a hairdryer to loosen the panel. The ice maker made it harder to remove the plastic panel so I pulled it back and saw the cooling fins frozen solid. I used the hairdryer to melt the ice and a shop vacuum to collect the water. It works like new again.
