Question about Toshiba Satellite P305D-S8828 Notebook PC

My Vista Home Premium starts up in boot manager

I didn't remember doing anything immoral or anything two weeks ago when my Toshiba laptop began startup in the Windows Boot Manager, black screen with three options: boot with "ramdisk" or "boot with an older verion of Windows" or (I think it was) "safe mode".

I had been having fits chasing what turned out to be a "redirecting" trojan that wouldn't allow me to do Windows updates or Avira antispyware updates. I couldn't even ask a question in the Windows support forum. I would get one of those IE "couldn't access this whatever" So when I found out the phone number for Windows I called to speak to a tech geek and was headed off at the pass by a recording that told me I had no chance of speaking to an earthling until I had given Windows Live OneCare a shot at fixing it.

I did the Onecare download and when I installed it the Onecare gestapo told me to uninstall any other security software I had installed. I didn't believe Bill Gates or his miinions were going to cost me the $30 I had just shelled out for the Avira Premium. Yep.... that's what I had to do.

I know, I'm taking too long... to make a long story less long, I eventually got fed up with all the problems Onecare caused and sneakily uninstalled it. I hadn't linked the black screen boot problem with OneCare but suddenly my laptop booted normally. Then I had other problems and had to do a system restore. The only choices I had were to select a time when I had Onecare installed. Guess what.... the boot problem was back, Onecare ruled me like a dictator and I'm afraid to try to uninstall it again. Onecare doesn't come with an uninstall exe so I had to have the staff sneak an uninstall to me on a special link.

Any ideas? Hello? You still awake? LOL.... sorry...

Nothing special. Just configure your laptop to boot from the CDrom drive (before the HDD). You will have to open the BIOS configuration and change the boot order.
Insert Disk1 in the drive and restart the computer. Follow the instructions.

If you contact Toshiba, they can send you the original restore disks. If you are really nice to them, they might send them out for free.. I believe normally they do charge but they sent them to me for free a couple of years ago with my Toshiba laptop :)

Toshiba laptop reboots when on AC Power

I have the same problem with my Toshiba too, prima facie, it looks like Toshiba and Vista don't make a good combo. I suspected this to be a pure hardware problem, but was disproven when I booted in safe mode. It does not have any problems with the AC Power on in Safe mode.

I want to remove my Vista Home Premium (64 bit) os and replace with XP Pro

All you need to do is insert your Windows XP disk at start up and boot the disk by pressing any key when prompt to. Then run a clean install since a upgrade will not be available. You may want to backup your programs e.t.c.
