Ok. this is easy.

download swiss army knife. and format it using that tool.
OR put in your windows CD and go to the repair console, and you will either be able to select with a graphical interface or tell it to format in fat32 the help command will tell you how to do it all...

But swiss army knife [download] is a lot easier.

How to change hard drive ntfs format

Boot the windows installation media and go to the repair section of the installation media and select command prompt.
run these commands individually one after the other:

diskpart
select disk 0
clean
create partition primary
format fs=ntfs quick
active
assign
exit

once you have exited the diskpart service you can restart the installation process from the installation media.

Beware... If the hard drive you are formatting to NTFS currently has an existing file system or other OS loaded onto it then that information will be deleted (most likely irreversibly. Since you have a GPT disk at the moment that tells me that you most likely have Windows 8 installed on that particular device. Windows 7 does not install on every device that has Windows 8 preloaded. You may also have to go into the BIOS and disable the security keys associated with that drive and OS.

Windows has limitation over 32GB,
you need to use a free tool like this:
http://tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/Fat32Formatter/Fat32FormatterEN.zip
unpack and use as following:

in Physical choose the disk carefully, you can erase your main disk accidentally,
click in the blue area and it change the color to green, (in this moment has a NTFS filesystem)
then choose Delete Partition and OK, the HD area change its color to grey,
choose again the grey area and again it change to green,
if you know very well your hard disk choose Quick Format, otherwise it could takes a long time to reformat.
Click on Start and it Makes the rest.

i hope this will help you!

What is the format system for the external HDD? Is it NTFS or FAT?

If it is formatted on a PC then it might be NTFS and android will not recognise NTFS. You might have to plug it back into the pc and change the format system by reformatting the external HDD in FAT32 or exFAT.
To format the HDD (Hard disk drive) plug it into windows and when it appears on the screen (This Pc or My Computer screen) next to your C: drive, right click the HDD and select format and when the format window opens select the "File system" drop down menu and change it from NTFS. Then format it and plug it into your tablet to test it.

Windows XP has limitations on recognising too large NTFS disks. One of the solutions would be to format the entire disk as FAT32 or make a partition and format that as FAT32.

How can I format in Fat32 format this HDD

Open My Computer icon on the desktop. locate the hard disk you wish to format in FAT32. Make sure is not your main drive where windows was installed which is Drive C: Right click on the drive you want to format and select Format, a formatting window will pop out, there you see capacity which is the size of your hard drive,File system, and so on. Select the drop down menu under File system where we have NTFS and FAT32. Set it to FAT32. Under Format Options, Select Quick format and click Start. A warning message will pop out Click Ok to proceed. Wait a moment until the formatting is complete. Good luck.

You will receive an error message when copying a file larger than 4GB to the hard drive if the drive is formatted FAT32. The FAT32 file system has a file size limitation of 4GB. You may also receive an error when backing up to the hard drive using backup software. To correct this problem you will need to format the drive to NTFS. If you are using Windows ME or 98SE, you will not be able to use NTFS.
There are some products that do not support the NTFS files system or changing their file system. If you own a FlashTrax/FlashTrax XT/FotoChute/PhotoBank/USB FireLite XPress, you cannot change the format of the drive to NTFS. It must be kept as FAT32 in order to operate properly. If you are using SOHO NAS via ethernet, do not format it to NTFS. If you have any questions, please contact technical support before you format the drive.

Warning: Formatting a hard drive erases all data from the drive. Please backup any data prior to formatting the hard drive.
To format to NTFS, open My Computer.
1.Right-click on the Verbatim hard drive, left-click on Format.
2.Select NTFS as the File System.
3.Place a check in Quick Format.
4.Click Start.
Once the format completes, you will be able to copy files larger than 4GB to the hard drive.

HDD wont get formatted

Hi, maybe the easiest way for you to format this drive would be if you could attach it as a secondary drive in a pc that is currently working and then try formatting it in the desired format from within windows. Windows will recognize a drive it only needs to format it in order to access it for data storage. You may need to change the jumper setting to slave on the HDD before you plug it in.

If you need any help with this just let me know.
